Youtube video courtesy of Supreme Sports Club, a Columbia Association division. This is only appearance of what the rink inside is like.
Skateland 7060 Deepage Drive, Columbia, MD
Columbia Skate Arena 760 Deepage Drive, Columbia, MD
This was one of the few Skateland rinks in Maryland. I am not sure what it was like before it became Supreme Sports Club Columbia Skate Arena. But the interior apparently remained the same. Same Maple wood floor with polyurethane Coat. As Columbia Skate Arena, they modernized the facility very clear, clean appearance with Snow White walls with Blue and Green colors here or there as you can see on a Youtube.
There are NO information regarding Skateland. Only I find more of is the present operating Columbia Skate Arena. Any one know what was it like before? Photos of interior and exterior? When it was opened and closed and sold and why sold?
Looks like after the owners of Supreme Sports Club purchased Skateland, they expanded their facility. It does appear to look like a very modern facility with poured Concrete for the building and unique Modernism with mutli-level. The only facility with Gable roof is clearly where Skateland used to be- the current Columbia Skate Arena. The rest are gym, classes, and sports activities and offices are located. Those part have Flat roof. They are connected by canopy between the former rink and extension building and the rest of the facility on a hill. The front of the rink has extension front of the old rink building but it has a real work out to arrive inside to climb many stairs and ramp. It is almost as if it takes another floor up commercial height, not regular home height. Some of the facilities--the newer part has windows but the rink itself has no windows. It appeared to be a rebuilt over the original. Even the rink itself looks new.
Columbia Skate Arena is operated under the umbrella of Columbia Association. The CA was founded in 1967 with one of their facilities but likely purchased the former Skateland in 1970s because the material used for their sports club facility and the design looked like between 1970 and 1985. Around there.
