All but the top photo courtesy of Yelpers. The picture you see with the green colored walls was taken in before 2011. But the photo with the gentleman looks on the entire floor was taken in 2011. You can see the professional level with higher ramps and that was bit difficult for some. Then it was revamped for more of beginners and novice levels. They added colorful murals. Again, not liking it but really pops. It was different kind of paints because roller rinks have black light paints.
Skatecity 4915 Steptoe St, Las Vegas, NV
Skatecity was a skate park indoors at 4915 Steptoe St, Las Vegas, Nevada. It was in a very large facility. 180,000 Square feet! I believe they had part of the building though. I do not have much information though. It was opened in 2001 but nothing more than that. Several YouTube were shown and an article that they closed in December 2010 but reopened in 2012 after renovations and rebooting the business but everything seemed to be dated for that place, no new articles or anything.
They looked like they closed in 2015 according to Yelp.
Josh operated this skate park.
The skate park closed likely due to decling of skateboarders and others. It was becoming more of different kind of activities other than skateboards. Skateboarders perhaps not like other people using other materials which interfere but also one on Yelp noticed why. It was heat there. We know that Las Vegas is one of most hottest city in the United States and many would prefer use the facility in pre-dawn till about 8:30 AM which when the weather there gets too hot. No one wanted to be in there when it is too hot out. That affected the business because no one would be there during the middle of the day. Age demographics too. Most adults prefer casinos as their recreational means. Teens have school. Therefore, in a casino focused city, competition is too great for anything else to be there.
The Interior.
Many ramps and from my understanding in comments in Yelp and YouTube, the level of experience was expert without any beginners. In December 2011, they renovated to have new ramps or removed some features. Changed from Lime Green to Gray and added murals. The original did look better with that Lime Green appearance with nicer wood inversions (quarter barrels, ramps, etc.). The combination of those two complimented well compared to gray color.
The Exterior.
It was in one of those huge Steel-walled flat roof structure-- a warehouse like building that houses several businesses. It has very high ceiling clearance.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: Wood and concrete. Floor Layout: variations (Skate Park).
Building Size: N/A. Built: N/A. Demolished: N/A.
Type of Building: Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building.
Roof: Gable.
Acres: N/A.
Operated: (Overall)-- N/A.
Reason for Closure: Declining number of skaters, alternative uses at the park such as scooters, bicycles, heat, and casinos as main competitor of recreational means.
Wanted: Information regarding exact dates of open/closed, why closed, size of rink, rink materials. Also photos. Anyone knows or have photos, please let me know by emailing at [email protected]. Thank you.
