Skate World 2136 East 69th St. Street, Tulsa, OK
Skate World was a rink right up to 1998 when they closed. They were at 2136 East 69th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Currently an office building. The only thing I could find were the date of closure, the map of what it is like now, and a single photo of the rink. Now, the photo gave the light balance on the photo, texture of the photo, interior design and the type of lights pinpoints to 1960s. It may have run as a rink since 1960s to 1998. Unless anyone tells me otherwise. Anyone?
It is now a warehouse and office building. Totaled renovated into their needs. Very sleek design.
This location would have been great to continue as a rink because the walk score is 66 points for walking, not driving, walking and for public transit, it is 30 point. Not too bad for the walking though. It is located in more of industrial and commercial location.
The Interior.
The only photograph I could find so far really describe them all. It appeared to pinpoint to 1960s, maybe early 1970s. The style of décor there, the globes pendants on the ceiling, the zigzag or crooked lines runs all the way down the wall and back wall. The floor even include the word welcome in curative font style. I believe on the floor above the "Welcome" word is their logo/mascot. It is a stick person with a huge head likely supposed to be a globe--Earth. He does look like he is running from left to right. One thing though. Not really running, he is speed skating. It is hard to see the wheels in the photo so please look at it again carefully. The globe is not perfectly rounded. It appeared more oblong or oval. That was common in 1960s with logos showing earth in that shape. I know a film company did that back then. Was it Worldvision? I think so. Above the skater is the name of the rink in Red font. Hard to see due to angle.
Second thing I love about this place is the lights. All globe pendants, the flashing lights around the edge of the ceiling. Same type of stuff for the Starburst lights.
The Exterior.
I believe the original was just that Free-Span Steel Trusses Cinderblocks-Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gable roof but when the rink closed in 1998, the new owner converted into offices. They added the front into a real modern good looking front with Brick and Concrete. It look sleek for that part. The roof remains though. If converted back to a rink, easy, it is already expanded and remove the walls inside and you got a rink again. Only one can dream. Sourrounded in both industrial and commercial location.
