Skate World 1001 Knight Rd, Ponca City, OK
Skate World was located at 1001 Knight Road in Ponca City, Oklahoma. This rink began its life in the year 2000 but it did not last that long. They closed on Friday, September 20, 2013.
Richard and Victoria Clemons owned and operated Skate World in Ponca City for 7 years. I think they wanted to sell to a business or an individual who would keep the rink open but instead, it was sold to a business that uses it now as a warehouse. This is typical practice when you want to sell a business, they will change into something entirely different because they only wanted the building, not the business. It is harder to sell to keep as it is. Usually does not.
The location was not that great for traffic because it showed on the scoring that it is 22 points out of 100 for car dependency. No public transportation. None so whatever for walking either.
The Interior.
Hard to explain due to photographs of people at the rink. I believe I can see the floor was White painted Polyurethane coated on concrete. The half walls are in Royal Blue and the Back wall with the name of the rink was in Plum with Yellow fonts. Under that Plum part of the wall was White. Skate World was lettered in Bold italic. Looks like Ariel font.
The Exterior.
It is a Free-Span Steel Trusses Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building. The roof is Gable. It was White painted. Most of the surrounding are all flat farm and countryside.
The Stats:
Rink Size: N/A. Floor: White painted, Polyurethane coated, Concrete. Floor Layout: Standard.
Building Size: 14,300 SF. Built: 2000? Demolished: Still Standing. Now a warehouse.
Type of Building: Free-Span Steel Trusses Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building.
Roof: Gable.
Acres: 1.9900 Acres.
Operated: (Overall)-- 2000 to Friday September 20, 2013.
Reason for Closure: The owners had enough, thought they sold to new owner for rink to continue operations but was not. It was sold to become a warehouse.
Wanted: Information regarding exact dates of open/closed, why closed, size of rink, rink materials. Also photos. Anyone knows or have photos, please let me know by emailing at [email protected]. Thank you.
