As Pinz Entertainment Center. This was opened after the rink closed. They kept as entertainment but no skating. Hmm. And they had Blue Dog bar but that was closed too. This was taken in 2011.
This was taken in 2017. Noticed the Blue Dog Bar is gone. They then must have expanded the entertainment center. You will also noticed the logo design changed.
Courtesy of Skate Palace group on Facebook. The grand opening ad. I see it was quite too busy! Why, too much information. But that is good they got coupons on the same ad, and the way the layout.. I love the outlines. The top part looked like a castle while the rest looked more like a crest. The two circles on bottom were supposed to be wheels and the straight line.. It makes it look more like a skateboard than a skate to be honest with you. So, that balanced out with the design outweighs the busy wordings there and the misinterpretation of what type of skating this is. Skateboarding? Apparently not. One thing, the proper placement of most important wordings are correct. Readers tend to read like a Z in an ad, book cover, even scan-reading, and merchandise. From left to right, grand opening night to the pre-opening afternoon layout is correct then you scan down toward left again by seeing schedule in middle then to the first wheel on the left saying free product or something then the congratulations to the right where the small simple map of where they are located. Their graphic artist did correct.
Skate Palace 110 South Main Street, Milford, MA
Skate Palace had grand opening on Monday Evening June 12, 1978 on 110 South Main Street, Milford, Massachusetts with much fanfare. They had pre-opening on the day before in the afternoon but actual operation was that Monday Evening. David J. Breen, the operator who registered on February 27, 1978.
Skate Place was also named but I believed it was an error as I did my research. It is listed but to show it was really Skate Palace.
They lasted this long till sometimes in 2005. I thought this would really last longer because the place looks so awesome.
There was a bar in the same building that was opened in the same year was called Blue Dog Bar and Grille and apparently they too went out of business during 2010s.
The Interior.
The interior truly had 1970s feel. Considering it was opened in 1978, the colors were very popular at the time. From top to bottom of colors-- Tan, Yellow stripes, sort of Off-Orange Stripes, and Red Stripes and of course, Chocolate Brown. It even had hearts on there. This was bit unusual to have hearts because this era stripes were very common and popular on just about anything.. in many rinks, snowmobiles, Boats, Recreational Vehicles, and even automobiles (few models including Jeep CJ, 1977 Ford Pinto, and Oldsmobile Cutlass models at the same time period. The BBG as I call that, Big Bold Graphics were common as they evolved from thin stripes (ie- 1979 Buick Riviera, 1985 Ford LTD which I had and same colors-- Chocolate and Orange Stripes).
But very limited photos I can see that. Unfortunately I do not have any other photos I can find out. More can be added when they can find photos. Dead-Rinks always will update.
The Exterior.
It does look like a department store with that appearance. Looked like a two story or three story building but I think it is a two story building but I am not sure. I do not know original colors were but currently as a bowling center, it shows several shades of Tan colors. The newer look looks a lot better than the original bowling center look. And new logo which really pops better than the original logo for the bowling place.
