Skate Odyssey of Tampa 302 West Fletcher Ave, Tampa, FL
Skate Odyssey of Tampa was a rink first filed on March 1, 1989, and opened in 1989 but it did not give actual closing date either. Marie J. Hinton opened this rink. Likely it was closed in September 1997 from a source online that I cannot verified.
Skate Odyssey was located on West Fletcher Ave and North Florida Ave in Tampa where Harbor Fright is located now on the map that matches the photograph of old rink. (Updated: 302 West Fletcher Avenue, Tampa, FL)
There are however, Skate Odyssey North which is a separate rink under same management I believe and the Lakeland, FL location as well. Please do not confuse with the Skate Odyssey that are in Mississippi. Those rinks in that state are still in operational and has no way associated with the Florida Skate Odysseys. There is, however photos on their Facebook fan page but I am unable to reach them to confirm those photos on their page the one and same rink I am discussing here.
UPDATE! -- 13 April 2022.
I received an email today. Someone said about this rink.
I noticed that you needed the original location for the Skate Odyssey on Fletcher Ave in Tampa. It was on 302 W. Fletcher Avenue and it was a separate, free-standing roller rink that was right next to that Harbor Freight Tools, which eventually turned into a Nissan dealership and was torn down about 8 years ago. It can be confirmed on this Facebook post with a commercial that shows what it looked liked inside:
Facebook
This link above showed commercials they had at the time. Several of them.
However, I could have sworn seeing that rink still active, or at least the original signage and some kind of paintings on the building in the early 90’s before it turned into a Nissan dealership.
I thought the rink was on the back part of the plaza next to where Harbor Fright is now. Not the dealership. Apparently it was where the Nissan dealership at one time.
Interior:
It had Maple Hardwood floor, non-painted. I could not tell what layout though.
Exterior:
It was part of the plaza although it was a freestanding, Gabled Free-Span Steel Trusses Cinderblocks building.
Stats:
Rink Size: N/A Floor: Maple, clear coated Floor Layout: N/A
Building Size: N/A Built: N/A Renovations: N/A Demolished: 2013
Type of Building: Plaza storefront-like building.
Roof: Flat.
Acres: N/A
Operated: 1977 to 2007
To be determined (likely March 1, 1989 start up till unknown, possible September 28, 1997)
Reason for Closure: N/A
Wanted: Information regarding actual location, open and close, photos of interior and exterior. Also the differences with other Skate Odyssey places. Address!
