Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. This was 2011. and you can see some cartoon characters on the wall. I think those are not legal to have those characters. That company that owns those characters are very fickle about anybody using theirs or you will be sued. Good thing it was removed. Courtesy of Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning Facebook page.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. Those characters were removed by new owners, only the front doors area were painted Fire Engine Red after the original was in Black.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. Then they continued the work by painting the rest of the building and replaced the sign. And finish the parking lot. This making it look so new. But sadly 900 days they tried to sell and look at it! Beautiful! Come on! No one these days want to buy anything anymore. Courtesy of Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning Facebook page.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. Final version of the rink with Red stripes and Cold Gray 80 Percent. Maybe 90 percent. Really does look new. They did good job. Courtesy of Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning Facebook page.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. Looked brand new. They painted, they paved, they sealed the parking lot, everything. See next photo too and for longer description on this. Courtesy of Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning Facebook page.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. This is the actual property size. Both buildings under same ownership. But I have a good feeling that the building on the right was designated for warehouse or banquet or whatever they did in the past. Two addresses. The one on the right is addressed as 1804 South Morris Avenue, Bloomington, IL. Courtesy of Rink-History.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. Te original sign but it showed the new owners who bought the place in 2014 and added "The New Beginning" before they renovated the whole place to be updated. They invested quite heavily with the sign, painting, paving the parking lot, refinished the floor, murals, and roof. And it really breaks my heart (yes, I am actually crying), why no one bought this rink that couple worked hard to invest in order to continue as a rink and no one bought it for 900 days. I too do not have the money. If I did, I would have bought it. Would have bought many rinks and turn into a chain. Shame on people not wanting to purchase. Same with people not wanting to buy my website or invest in my designs. More on this another time another place. Courtesy of Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning Facebook page.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. New sign. I love it. Very creative having a skate pops out of the sign and it was easy to read. Much better sign than the old version with America's favorite soda brand. Courtesy of Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning Facebook page.

They had to make it so difficult because my best friend at the time and I mastered at it. Haha. Now they are all too hard. Don't waste time. I got one last fall at a rink though. Haha. Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. Tiny practice floor. It was Golden Yellow Brick color Concrete floor. This is so tiny. Must be for 3 years old to 6 years old to practice before joining the big floor to skate. Courtesy of Rink- history.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. This design was under old management before the rink was sold in 2014. This photo may be blurred however, you can tell the design was.. not mean to be Simon Cowell or Gordan Ramsay here but this interior design was disastorious! Look at it. Look at the walls with much zig zag and I cannot make out what the back wall is showing.. I see some green.. Were they trees or what? I wish I can see this photo any better. It would be too hard to sharpen digitally unless you have some kind of software to clear this. Anyway, you can see the ceiling too. Too many Starburst lights for a small rink. This is considered small. And too much lights and equipment on the ceiling. After 2014, they fixed up and painted and did well clean up the lighting system, walls, and redo the floor. Courtesy of Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning Facebook page.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. Beautifully done with the roller rink floor. I am not sure but I think it appeared to be straight layout rink floor. I love the Minimalist look on the floor. Clean and modern with 2020s trendy colors. They were ahead of time by 5 years. Courtesy of Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning Facebook page.

I love the clean Minimalist colors that are the 2020s colors now. Perfectly executed color choices, design, and it is clean. It does give that very spacious feel. But this was done in around 2016 according to Facebook post. Courtesy of Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning Facebook page.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. As you can see a few short years later, the shining floor that was done in 2016, this was more recent as 2020. It faded and foggy on the floor. Still love that decor right there. The number you see has to do with a game they play with a giant dice Courtesy of Rink- history.
Skate 'N' Place 1704 S. Morris Ave, Bloomington, IL. One of the unofficial logo however, I think they could have used this as main logo. Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning 1704 South Morris Avenue, Bloomington, Illinois
Skate 'N' Place 1704 South. Morris Avenue, Bloomington, Illinois was operational for a good 50 years before it was finally sold after it was on the market for a long 900 days which is nearly three years. Apparently the owners of this rink, Tim and Diane Overholser bought the rink in 2014. They bought it from previous owners.
They wanted to get out of rink business because they have full-time day jobs and it was hard to handle both. They have their reasons for selling but wanted to keep as a rink but unfortunately, no one wanted to buy so it was sold to a business that wanted to use as warehouse. it will be a long time before the next person wants to buy this building and turn it back to a rink but at a price.. new floors again, paint, everything back to a rink. Unfortunately, no one wanted to buy so that was it.
They permanently closed on 1 of April 2023. No, it was not an April's Fool day ojke. Unfortunately, no. They actually closed.
The main attraction, the Disco Ball was removed on 15 of April, 2023. It sure was a sad day.
Originally the building was built in 1973 for the skating rink.
Interesting to know that this skating rink property is also part of another property together. The 1704 South Morris Avenue is also part of 1804 South Morris Avenue. The building next door has exact same Gray color but it appears newer building. Looks more like an office plaza of sort. Unfinished warehouse building with almost 12,000 SF with overhead door and dock door.
What I saw on Zillow that it said it was listed on the market on 08 December 2021 but on 10 of February 2022, it was taken off the market however, it may apparently was sold AFTER they removed the listing. Sometimes, that happens. Like with my sister's house in Hastings, NY, she had it listed but then no one bought it then had it removed but someone came and bought it off market and got good offer and sold. Well, this can happen or often always for ANY businesses, you will always get offers when you are not even interesting to sell your business. Strangely, NO one offered for mine. That is a fact.
The Interior.
Skate 'N' Place: The original rink was of course, had Straight layout Polyurethane coated clear coated Hardwood Maple floor and it was small rink. Their murals on the wall had some zig zag to it and some green appeared to be trees. They had cluttered Starbursts lights on the ceilings with Globe lights all over the facility.
Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning: The updated look made it more minimalist look with clean straight lines around the rink and more White exposure on the wall making it does feel bigger for this small rink floor than it was before 2014 real estate transaction. Less disco lights on the ceilings. It is much cleaner, better and they did much better job on this. They worked hard to convert this rink and having other employment which caused them to burn out working on the rink.
The Exterior.
Skate 'N' Place: The exterior was a boring plan Cold Gray 60 percent on their walls and Black with White Trim on the entrance area. They had a Pepsi on the sign which was their vendor selling their products at the snack bar. Part of the building was Gable but they had extension with Salt-box like roof.
Skate 'N' Place The New Beginning: The appearance after they updated in 2014 went from zero to ten when they put new sign up and it was much better looking sign. They also painted part by part. Starting with the entrance that they painted red on black. And then painted the entire facility with a bit darker gray. Looks like Gray 80 percent. Maybe 90 percent darkness. Cold Gray.
They also painted a Fire Engine Red stripe all around the front and side. It gave much appeal.

Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.

Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
