Skate Key Roller Rink 220 East 138th Street, Bronx, New York
The reason there is no address in name just above is because I researched that there are two conflicting Facebook regarding to Skate Key Roller Rink's addresses. One being on White Plains Road and the other at East 138 Street. Both of Bronx. They have two logos on Facebook. Was there not one but TWO Skate Key rinks? Please clear on this, thank you!
According to another website, finduslocal.com, it says it is at 138th. Please correct me.
Now, all I have is a photo of the building off of this website, placematters.net. It is shown above. The rink, for sure, was in the Bronx. They ceased operations in around 2006 or 2007 according to a skater on Facebook when they asked people that question. According to an article discussing Empire Roller Skates in Brooklyn, Skate Key closed just a month before that famous rink closed. Both Empire and Skate Key were equally famous and popular for skaters.
It was like the replacement for the Levittown and Bayshore rinks. And as those two, Levittown and Bayshore rinks were for organ music and ballroom dancing skating as Skate Key and Empire were to DJ music and Roller Disco.
What next generation roller rinks will be for New York City? We do not know.
It was originally opened in 1980s (exact year is unavailable) and closed in 2007, same year as Empire, one month before that.
