Skate City in Lucedale, Mississippi. This image was taken in 2008 by Google Map. It did show that the sign had much damaged. No signage! Just a broken or bend sign still hanging in that photo when they took it. I do not have any newer one or old one unfortunately.
Skate City 6238 MS-198 East, Lucedale, MS
Skate City was located at 6238 MS-198 East, Lucedale, Mississippi. It was a very simple rink. But it had a long history to it. It began in 1957. Only to close sometime around 2010s.
It may have had same name or name changed but I do not have any other information yet on that part. However, Manta said Skate City was the name back in 1957 as Google said the same name, Skate City. So, we know now it was same name all those years. About 60 years.
However, Rink Time said 1984. The building appeared to be as old as in 1957. So I have to mark it as 1957 for now. Unless any of you know more history. Please let me know.
One thing though. The Facebook page shows it is active but oldest photos are in 2020. This profile made on 30 April 2021 and no posts this year. Second of all, those photos posted were by fans, none of by the rink owner/manager. I believe it might have closed last year without any announcements. There is a phone number but no way for me to contact with an email address. None. Why no email? Why no Messenger? And why use the wrong Skate City...
Skate City of Colorado).
I provided the link so you can check the locations. There are many Skate City rinks that are not afflicted with the main Skate City of Colorado company.
So, is this Skate City in Lucedale, Mississippi. still active? Please let me know.
The Interior.
This rink has some kind of floor I cannnot tell. Was that Concrete? It may appear so and the way the floor paint was done. It is time to redo the entire floor. Red paint was Pelling off and faded into Pink and White. You can see the lines of how they painted. Not very smooth I have to say. You can see the outline of how they painted. I cannot describe further because you will see in the photos. I mean.. its long pass overdue to do the floor.
And the ceiling itself looked so low that a tall guy who can skate might be able to touch the ceiling! That is bad. What if he thinks its fun and oops, a panel comes off and can cause self or the skater behind some serious injuries in a fall after tripping on the panel. It would act like a banana that a cartoon character would slip and fall.
Only good thing they have going are colorful walls. Each part different color section. Very common in rinks during 2010s.
The Exterior.
The building is Free-Span Steel Truss Cinderblock-Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gable and Valler Roofs design. It is shaped like an L though. Not centered like a T. At least that is what the floor plan is.
The most recent is True Blue with True White. The colors reminded me of my alma mater. Lets go Warriors!
