Skate-A Way 1100 Western Ave, Chillicothe, OH
Skate-A Way roller rink did find its way there at 1100 Western Avenue in Chillicothe, Ohio. Sadly, it lost its way. They closed. From seeing the photos, All of those skaters were very close like family. This rink had a rink family full of skaters. So many hugging, laughter, and fun. Of course, many photos were shown from 1980s, 1990s. This was really close to heart for those skaters at this awesome rink they went.
Garold Griffith owned and operated Skate-A-Way in 1986.
The skating rink closed because the building was sold for $450,000 in October 2008.
It is a pharmacy sitting on the former parking lot. The building.. it has similar bricks to match to the drug store, its current purposes are unknown.
The Interior.
15,080 Square Feet floor space with a rink, and the usual. What I like at this former rink the benches. Very colorful. Each seat part is either White or some color. I have seen those plastic molded benches elsewhere in the past. One photos with many skaters on in Facebook showed it was a Rotunda Maple wood floor. Or was that a Fan layout? The shape of the floor was pretty bad. Very spotty in the picture which appeared to be late 1980s. Because of that, was there another rink operation at this same location before it was Skate-A-Way in 1986?
The Exterior.
The building was built in 1952 in a simple building close to the road with small parking lot. The property was rather small. A lot of 26,572 Square Feet which basically was where the skating rink building was and likely the parking lot too. It was a Free-Span Steel Trusses Cinderblock - Walled Warehouse - like Building with low pitch Segmental Arch.
Last it was with White Paint on the exterior wall with Blue stripe on the wall. It had Roman Brick format window which was common in 1950s as a trend.
