All courtesy of Shady Lane Roller Rink Facebook fan page. Noticed big differences on interior by the rink? And yes, fewer people. Sad. And no, I did not put up the pictures of the pretty girl "Candy Girl" photos because that is not what we are. BTW, she is spoken, guys!
The bottom two courtesy of Google Map. Noticed the differences between the Quonset Hut and the standard Gable roof addition. Well, it was not built at the same time. Originally just the hut then they added the front to give more room for a new office, admission, and snack and eating areas. The remodel occurred in 2001. Also the metal roof extension was to protect skaters outside while waiting to go in.

This rink with a name for a road. It did sound like a trailer park or a retirement community name but it was not. Of course, cross the street IS a trailer park. But not for this former rink called Shady Lane Roller Rink because it appeared to be state of the art building according to Google Map.
It was in a Quonset Hut style building with two squared support beams to hold up this Q-hut style building. Looked very futuristic with that part. This is the rink I would check out and it is currently owned by the local sheriff's department so now I am sure they still use as a rink but also their activities in that building. It is not the same anymore. They have several activities there.
The club acquired the Shady Lane rink in 2005. But when it was first opened, I have no idea. I will find out and will post here.
The original had no insulation on the Q-hut but after the club purchased in 2005, they installed insulation. It was renovated to include insulation. Originally had many wood panels here or there with a White background wall around the rink with American Red and Blue. Please see photos.
The updated looked so clean and modern inside. Neutral colors including Dark Blue on wall with the name, Boys and Girls Club with their logo. They added a basketball court to the rink. It was Concrete floor.
The old photos showed more cluttered for the candies and snackbar than the new one. Much less messy.
The area where skaters can sit and change their shoes to skates and back showed how cluttered that area with two rules: NO SMOKING OR GUM CHEWING. It is funny when you see the mess on the floor in that photo. Hazardous for skaters. Remember, this was old days and I see newer photos, no mess!
Newer photos showed updated look and adults skating instead of kids! They are the very same who were hanging out at Shady Lane back then. Even worked there. And yes, the Candy Girl they called that at the time was still working there and she still look good! Skating can make you look very healthy!
I had to look very closely on Google Map. Apparently it was up for sale! I found an article that relate to this that the Sheriff's Department wanted to purchase the former rink. Apparently the Boys and Girls Club rink has been closed and up for sale since end of 2016. Both are dead rinks. In 2016, it was up for sale for the price of US $425,000.
UPDATE: I received the email from the final manager, Brian Nielsen that he told me about the rink. It was sold to the owner of next door, the mobile trailer park. Actually the sheriff's department for their activities. You see, the owners Brian Nielsen worked for (Nels and Virgina Millspaugh) sold the rink in 1996 to retire – the property was bought and held by the owner of a mobile home park across the street from the rink. It was used primarily as a skate park and practice rink for hockey players until the owner donated the rink to the Boys and Girls Club. In 2019 it was purchased by the Flathead County Sheriff’s Possee and is now used for any number of things…..just not skating. These are fact information given to me. Thank you Brian!
Interior:
This being the Quonset Hut, it featured arched from ground to ground. The rink itself is pretty much most of the hut section while the front extension addition built What more interested is that it has Concrete roller floor with off-white/almond tiles!
They had interesting murals on the side when it was Shady Lane but when they sold it, the club painted more conservative with Blue and their logo on the wall. Now, it is not. I have no idea what it is like inside now.
Exterior:
Photos above quite clearly showed it is Quonset Hut. They had also extension built to accommodate more room with new office, and snack bar/eating area. Also for skaters to stand under canopy from weather element. Being in Montana, sun, rain, and snow. Originally the door was right at the front of the hut before the extension built in 2001. That was when they remodeled.
