Elmwood Roller Rink 2406 South 71st Street, Philadelphia, PA. This is raw sticker. It has misprints, colored dots, and tape burns. The female looks 1940s because of hair, dress, and the art work looks it belonged to that decade. Also the colors were common in 1930s to 1940s. Source: Hidden City.
Elmwood Roller Rink 2406 South 71st Street, Philadelphia, PA. I like this clean 2-color sticker that has Khaki and Pennsylvanian Blue. Very simple minimalist to it. The couple appeared to be 1950s because of the hair styles, and what they were wearing especially what the gentleman was wearing-- a dinner jacket with slacks on. The shape is, of course, Pennsylvania symbol of a Keystone. Source: Hidden City.
Sepia Skate Club 2406 South 71st Street, Philadelphia, PA. This is the "other rink" at the same location at the Elmwood. Having said, this is for every Tuesday only for a certain ethnic group that skated there. I believe they were operating during 1940s to mid 1960s. But after that, Elmwood management allowed any sessions for any ethnic groups. Source: Hidden City.

Elmwood Roller Rink 2406 South 71st Street, Philadelphia, PA. You can see the canopy over the door was gone. The one in the left was Forest Green canopy. Must be a replacement for the one above in tan color. Taken in 2014. Source: Google.

Sepia Skate Club 2406 South 71st Street, Philadelphia, PA
Sepia Skate Club and Elmwood Roller Skating Rink were at 2406 South 71st Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. First it was Elmwood but the Sepia Skate Club was part of Elmwood.
Elmwood Roller Skating Rink had its humble beginning in 11 October 1945 which was owned by Italian-American Family (or February 1947 Billboard) although several sources said in 1981 and 1983 which were in error and are not listed. That is because of the new owners/management took over. It had seen several ownerships through out the years. The most recent was Ernest "Puff" Edwards who owned and operated the rink since 2005.
They had many different events there or different sessions that ran for many years including Gospel Night, Family Day, etc. They had a roller derby team called, Philadelphia Warriors.
However, likely around 1940s to 1960s, the Elmwood Roller Rink allowed Sepia Skate Club to operate every Tuesday at the same rink but it is marketed toward a certain group of people. Discrimination were large in before 1965. (see many profiles on Dead-Rinks and you will find many rinks discriminated against people because of the color of their skin).
They had pretty good scoring for the walking, public transportation and biking to the former rink. Their scores were... 79 points for walking score. Very much able to walk to and from the rink while the public transit such as city buses were at 71 points and bicycling at 69. It is that good clearly. At the average of 73 but the median is 74. Good spot for skaters but I do not know why they closed for good in the past decade.
They closed in around 2014, 2015 and now, it is a school. The building retain the same look but new canvas canopies over the doors.
The Interior.
The original is unknown but of late, it had 1980s style British Tutor as a decor theme with dark stained Maple with an epoxy style coating on the floor. At one end they have snack bar, games, and limited eating area. Part of the wooden floor extended beyond the half rail into the snack bar area and other part is carpeted.
Half wall around had Wainscoting Wall Panels (vertical stripes) in dark stain. Beautiful wood I tell you. But that wood does not match the the roller rink because of age and wear and tear. The other part, upper half is quite different. Still, I love the wood. I would compliment that as it does compliment with the floor though.
The concession stand also works as skate rental. Bit confusing but effective with less staff and limited layout. They are located at one end.
The Exterior.
They had and still there the Free-Span Steel Trusses Brick - Walled Store - like Building with Flatted roof. It was very simple design on the outside. No style actually. Very cubist in my opinion. Parking would be on the street only.
