Once there was Sam’s Skating Club Inc. where Rolling Hills Skate is now located at 105 E Russell Road, Sidney, Ohio.
According to Manta, it said that the rink was opened in 1960. Yelp reported it was closed and it became Rolling Hills Skate. But no year or the date is given.
Xome said it was sold in 2012 just for 35,000 USD! THAT IS CHEAP! Too cheap. Why that cheap? That opened another rounds of questions why that low. I believe it may have been sold in an auction. If that was the case, then it makes sense why that cheap.
Now if it was in 2012. Then my educated guess is that was when Sam's Skating Club closed.
I know what you are thinking with the name. It sounded too much like Sam's Club, a Walmart retail brand. But I assure you it is not related.
In 2020, a new owner bought the rink and renovated it. His name is Dan Egbert.
The Interior.
It has a Non-painted, Light Stained Maple wood floor in Log Cabin layout. However, it is sad since the wood was first laid in 1960, it is 61 years old wood. The floor you can see in third photograph showed the wood is ruined near the wall. Was there a leak? I do not see on the ceiling above. It has to be a pipe under the floor or a spill or something that ruined it. Besides that, it is quite old wood floor that it is time to replace. A Maple wood floor lifetime is 50 years, not more than that. Perhaps this is why it happened. This is my big concern regarding the floor. The rest of the look is great, awesome color, Dan (rink owner)! Just take care of the floor. You can even have partial replacement and be sure it matches to the rest.
Since I have no photos of Sam's ever since 1960s, this incarnation appeared to be in 2010s because of progress of trends from Lime Green and Brown to Lime Green and Black/Gray before the Graying of America trend started around 2014-15. This showed they were right in between the 2000s Lime Green-Brown generation of trend and the Graying of America trend.
The rest I did not show because it is all modern. It is beautiful. Check Rolling Hills Facebook page.
The Exterior.
It is currently Rolling Hills Skate and it is exact the same as it is interior. Lime Green/Arctic (Cat) Green and Very Dark Grayish Black as it is almost Chalkboard Black. Again, the trend is hybrid between the 2000s Lime Green - Brown generation and the Graying of America. Hey, Arctic Cat/Textron, are you listening? Please not the Light Charcoal Gray! Arctic Cat is known for BLACK on their sleds!
Free-Span Steel Trusses Cinderblocks and Steel (front) - Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gabled Roof. It has a faux sense of height of building on the front.
