Taken by a fan through Pinterest. The sign on the wall outside. Cute skates.
Google Map 2009 before the fire that year. I love the style because it does show very 1980s look. Apparently it was from 1980s. Very similar to what I designed for my sister's then business, a computer training school in the 1980s. (she sold her interests to her ex husband in mid 90s before he sold it to another computer school which then they folded).
Rollerworld group on Facebook taken by a skater. What a sad day. I wish I could see the better photo than just that section. Because you can see it was more badly damaged on the right side. If S/he could have taken the rest. Then we would have seen how bad it was. You can tell already that was that bad. It was demolished.
Rollerworld group on Facebook. Was it Ice Blue or White floor? Beautiful floor! Although I can see the warp slightly if you can see the reflexions
Rollerworld Inc. 625 VFW Rd (Tennessee Gas Road), Greenville, MS
This beautiful rink, Rollerworld on 625 VFW Road (Tennessee Gas Road) in Greenville, Mississippi was operational apparently from maybe 1985 to 2010. They closed for good due to a massive fire according to photos and skaters who skated at Skateworld. They explained a little bit on Facebook.
The owner in 1992, Michael Bosburgh registered and opened Rollerworld. However, Bizapedia said business registration was on November 25, 1985 by other people. Likely it was that date because of the looks of the interior and exterior looked right for its decade. It appeared that Michael Bosburgh purchased he rink in 1992.
Due to the fire, the insurance company refused to pay and there was a lawsuit against the insurance company from United Kingdom. Here is the said article about the fire: Casetext. I prefer you read that to get the whole thing to understand the lawsuit. Different amount of money owned, and failure to file properly, so much legal talk.
It was sad the fire ended this rink thanks to the mess the insurance company and loss of recovery and so it was enough to pay for demolish and flattened out. All is a concrete slab there now according to a skater.
Anyone know how this fire began? I do not see any newspaper articles.
The Interior.
According to Facebook, it apparently had Sky Blue Polyurethane coated Concrete Floor. That looked good floor and the reflexion of it on the Snow White ceiling to contract to the darker warm colors of Fire Engine Red and hint of Black. A "Ying to Yang" Black and White. that sort of. This made the appearance very interesting and exciting at the time. I love that look. Very refreshing even to me in 2021 after all those years that look was popular. White on anything. I recalled places with that interior look. But not a whole lot. More so if you look up online, that is how I remember that was popular color. I even have Architectural Drafting book that was printed in 1960s for my Architectural Drafting Class in late 1980s with drafting lessons before all computers had those bold color carpets against white. And I remember television programs at the time had those Redness and Whiteness. That space battle movie with that White look interior in the Rebellion ship when that black masked man finally entered to look for the Princess. And the red carpet. That was the style back then. Space 1999 and Buck Rogers on TV all had those colors. Not quite with the Teal and White of 1980s. That was the last time they used the color against White before it turned to Wood and colored walls of 1990s.
The rink floor looked so icy but it was a roller rink! Well lit in that area.
The Exterior.
The building was one of those common looking rink of its day with Cinderblock walls, Gable roof, Steel walled for the trim above plus canopy. It was sort of Royal Blue but not quite. With the fun feel tall figure skate type of shoes skates. The Cinderblocks were only the front part but the rest were actually Steel Walled warehouse like.
The walls were sort of Off White. Gray-ish for the Steel Walls around the sides and back.
