Loop Net. This photo was taken years before Loop Net posted that in August 2020 when the building was listed at the time. It is no longer on the market. Might have been sold again for this year. A possible victim of COVID shut down.
Google Map. This one you got to laugh. I promise you that this is in Arizona. But look at the wall by the roof--it says "NYS" New York State!? Ha! This is a laugh. A good one to show as a goof up. NYS? I think they meant to spell as "AYS" as in Arizona Youth Sports. "NYS"... Haha. You have to be careful on how you do grammar or whatever when you do business. Haha.

This huge 1.9 Million US Dollars complex that was built in 2000 that began in year 1995 by drafting a business plan and the bank was truly friendly and helpful for Karen and Paul Fullmer who had a vision to start this roller hockey and roller skating entertainment complex. They were truly modern and updated and ageless too.
This Gable roof complex full of black tinted windows wrapped around the building for this ice-like roller court building.
The Fullmers had to fund raise money for the complex because the city did not provide money for the needs such as for fire hydrants, street lighting, new entrance to the parking lot from the road, etc.
It opened in July 2000 (Biz Journal) to around 2017 according to Facebook.
The facility also has more room! They have a 42 x 110 multi-purpose court for group fitness, Zumba, badminton, pickle ball, basketball, dodge ball and indoor summer camp activities. So actually they have two main functions in that nice facility!
They originally were going to include food court but the cost prohibited them so they had to reduce back to a concession stand like any other roller rink. With the price tag to built this rink, a food court could cost as much as 100,000 USD more. Maybe higher. If they were going to, they should have done that and use as good investment. Why? They should have had outsiders to lease space such as those fast food restaurants, few local favorites, and more. Shopping malls are excellent example that they expanded from just separated throughout the mall into food court. I have watched this in Syracuse, NY, once was the "Malls Capital of the World." They evolved that in mid- 1980s to include food court. Now, not too good. Even mega malls are having hard time. Maybe again it was wise not to include food court.
I have no date of them closing. However, after Rollerplex, I see the sign on the wall facing the street in this Google Map in 2011 showing, "NYS" The only thing I can think of with that "NYS" is "New York State." NYS!? NYS in Arizona? Ha. Was it a chain at one time owned this facility? I never seen it.
Yelp said they were closed but later on reopened in 2013. So, they closed before 2012 then.
According to Loop Net, the building was sold just in October 2020! Was the Peoria SportsPlex owners/management decided to sell the building and keep the rink business running or they actually closed for good? Good question. Was it COVID effect that caused the place go out of business? I tried to email them but it would not work. I will wait a while and get back to this in matter of few days.
The Interior.
This facility is more toward Roller Hockey than a standard roller rink you seen at your local rink or on here at Dead-Rinks. This facility has a rink size of 85' x 185' (15,725 SF) which is just 15 feet short of NHL size. They use Roller Court format and it is Ice White to make it look like ice rink but really, it is roller rink because of the skates they used.
Near the rink is a full-service concession stand, eating and lounge area, arcade room with couches and a large-screen TV, bleachers for spectators, four large locker rooms and a toddler's play area. Ohh, couches! Almost no rinks has couches! Just bleachers and those High wire spools style seating. Usually Roller Hockey centers have nice cushioned couches to sit on. Makes you feel like you are in the box... Spectator boxes that is.
This very rink received Dasher boards used during the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, when the United States men's ice hockey team won the gold medal over the Soviet Union, surround the rink and are designed to "give" upon impact. Makes me wonder why Lake Placid would sell it. Did they tear down the ice rink in the famous ice rink in Lake Placid? One can find out.
They have a 42 x 110 multi-purpose court for group fitness, Zumba, badminton, pickle ball, basketball, dodge ball and indoor summer camp activities. So actually they have two main functions in that nice facility!
It is a very modern clean interior with the theme focused on Roller Hockey, not a standard roller rink.
The Exterior.
Gable roofed Mirrored Black tinted windows wrapped around the building. It is built high above the ground apparently for flood reason.. It is a beautiful structure externally. I love the minimalist concept for a non-minimalist conformist. The design is quite modern. Black tint windows that every driver in that state would love to have on their cars, Red doors and titles up front are good complimentary colors to Gray and Black. This design is 20 years ahead of time because right now, in 2020, it is Graying of America. What is that? Check your favorite fast food restaurants with modern minimalist look. The architect really did 20 years advanced and this trend of Greying of America will die out by 2035 so the lifetime for this building is well planned. Grey Cinderblocks below the windows. There is a curved wall and window up front. Must be the lounge style there. This design is ageless that skaters will not complain about being dated. This is easily can be updated especially the interior. As a fan of Modernism, Googie's, and Minimalism, this makes me want to go skating there.
Having said, the landscape is Minimalist because there are no flowers. Just trees and bushes. Well spaced.
