Rollerland 818 East Mound Street, Columbus, OH. A 1960 advertisement for a V-J coming to play at the rink on Thursday, 27 October 1960. Notice something? Yes, two things! V-J! Video Jockey!? Was that term not exist till c. 1984 when MTV first aired showing video music. Now the V-Js are using video along with computer music and mixed media. This is at least 24 years advanced! In 1960, roller rinks were still using organ music using organists. DJ music did not come around about 1965 or later at roller rinks but DJs began in late 1950s. Peaked by 1978 and since then. (About 5 rinks today in 2021 uses organ music only).
The other thing was that this artist was Black in a rink that at the time limited Blacks people to skate on two nights per week. Rollerland 818 East Mound St., Columbus, OH
Rollerland 818 East Mound Street, Columbus, Ohio was the location where the roller rink was and a hot bed because of the inequality according to this article called Congress of Racial Inequality.
But first, it was opened in 1941. In 1960s, the rink only had two nights a week for Black people to skate. They were saying it was not fair becaus other enthics were able to skate more nights. There was a rink in Ohio went through similar situation and another rink in another nearby state faced similar case with such discrimation that the rinks had against but one rink did in fact confirmed the Supreme Court of the United States decision to allow businesses having the rights to reject anyone. That was already discussed elsewhere on this site.
But this one they had boycotting and wanted changes. What interesting according to the author of this article, Congress of Racial Inequality was the leader of the boycott against the rink because the land where the rink was built upon was ownd by Pontifical College Josephinum. Pontifical College Josephinum were preaching integration which is to combine or unite as a unity or whole and how liberal they were. The Josephimum ended up selling the land. If you understood Liberalism which is Communism and Socialism which does promote integration as you can see in the 21st Century America at the moment. Tthat college is a Catholic college which actually is a liberal college. The author is correct how Liberals are and colleges are and what they believe in which means Liberals are anti-equality. In another word, they do not care about your cow crap.
That college owned the land where Skateland was! This is standard practical view of the ignorance Liberals are. This was not the first instance but there are so many instances it occurred on how Liberals are behaving in their norms of functions against the actual equality that they want inequality and cause troubles.
What more interesting is that the rink which was upon the property of the Catholic college, the yearbook in 1953 named many businesses that sponsored the yearbooks. The skating rink was named in the Catholic newspapers.
What more interesting was there was a V-J IN 1960! 1960! It was not termed until the late 1970s according to Wikipedia. In this case with the rink, I believe they came up with this term meaning that the V-J played albums but also the lights. If you read in Wikipedia, it really means both lights and music. All rinks ever since they began using albums instead of organ music, they all were actually V-Js because V-J is multi-media format jockey with a mix. Usually sound and visual together. Rinks has both. So, this is one of the earlist true V-J ever known, Sorry MTV, this guy was first in my opinon.
