Courtesy of Google Map. A nice evening packed at the rink in September 2007. Currently a high school now.
Roller City 8412 Huron Street, Thornton, CO
Roller Express 8412 Huron Street, Thornton, CO
Roller Express 8412 Huron Street, Thornton, CO
Originally at that location was Roller City then it became Roller Express because I figured out that Roller City at another location closed in 1990s so it looked like the owner went out of business on both and sold both locations.
Roller City likely closed in late 1990s then Roller Express was around till 2010 when a charter school cross the street which was a former shopping mall converted to a school and they were growing and they need to have room for their new high school. They saw opportunity when Roller Express was selling so the charter school bought it and built high school in 2010. The rink may have closed actually around 2009.
The price they sold in 2002 was 325,000 Dollars. That was good price at the time and would still be today. I do not know what the cost they sold it in 2009.
They closed for good but the building still stands with the addition of three story building there. Much smaller school compared to their main campus cross the street which was a small shopping mall size (still is that size).
The charter school saw it was perfect opportunity to convert the old rink into a gym for the high school. Those people who runs the charter school is very bright because they can convert a shopping mall into a school. You hear that schools? Plenty of dead malls! Please check out Dead-Malls.
The charter school took over North Valley Mall which was cross the street from the rink. Check here. North Valley Mall Thornton, Colorado.
There was a lawsuit against Roller Express. It has to do with unsolicited fax advertising. You know, spamming of yesteryear.
The Interior.
No photos available. I have no idea.
The Exterior.
As Skate City, I have no idea what it was like but as Roller Express rink, it showed Tan colored and Terra Cotta color as well. Those colors still there but repainted for the new high school. It is a Gabled roof building.
