Roller City West (original '60s to '90s) 6803 W Alameda Ave, Lakewood, CO
Roller City West which was original '60s to '90s) in Lakewood, CO. Rarely some rinks do close for good but someone else would reboot it and reopened the rink. I know of one rink was like that. Empire Skates West in Baldwinsville, NY had original till early 1980s then closed, then reopened in same spot as Empire Skates which was a rebooted in late 1980s till very early 2000s.
This rink was around in 1960s but the website did not say exactly when. Same with the closing before it was sold and became a thrift store until the new owner who was a faithful skater of Roller City in Lakewood decided to purchase the building and reopened as Roller City!
The building was built in 1957. Perhaps something else was there prior to Roller City then you know the rest of the history.
The current one sounds like a very good rink. Largest in Colorado but also they are very updated and clean and excellent rink to attend. I recommend you go skate there! Check their Facebook and their website at Roller City.
The Interior.
I do not know what the original was like. It was Maple wood floor back the day. The rebooted version is Blue polyurethane coated Maple floor. It is the exact same Maple floor from the original rink that the current rink uses. It even had furniture scratch marks on the beautiful floor and Bry and his wife had to fill in to cover up those marks. I saw a photo showed several marks. Maple are expensive I tell ya!
They have two rinks actually. One regular and one for practice area for children and beginners to practice.
The Exterior.
I do not know what the original was like but the current one is very clean design. Blue is their main color along with Green. Blue stripes on top as it is Grey bottom Cinderblocks. Reminded me of a building I designed back in 1980s.
