Roller Castle Johnson Avenue, Elmont, New York
This was the final of the trilogy of Wal-Cliffe and Roller Castle skating rinks. It had castle themed and updated appearance. It was basically Wal-Cliffe but they rebooted according to someone who is related to the owner of the rink itself as seen on Facebook.
The updated looked very late 1970s/early 1980s with that gold tint and a lot of diamond look. I recalled some establishments in my hometown and photos of other places and been to other places with the similar look. That amber/gold look were in vogue at the time. It was ever since late 1960s. The look carried on as 1980s look. However, they added castle look interior as well as some exterior. It was just a facade. I believe they were trying to bring in vogue. This rink had quite a bit of diamond balls! I did not count but quite a bit of them above. Looks as if they wanted to maintain classic look in 1980s rather than that kiddie style theme.
The this reincarnation did not last long. From 1980 to 1988 thanks to a fire. I do not know what cause the fire. But the fire started at 3 in morning according to a first responder who photographed the rink fire on January 16, 1988. It was severe fire that several firefighters were injured. They had several problems attempting to fight the fire.
I need exterior photos of the rink since I only have one for interior.
