Roller Barn Skate Center, 1740 Highway 41 North, Inverness, FL
STILL ACTIVE!
Roller Barn was a very unusual name and had somewhat barn-like feel interior decor. But it was not fully "red barn with stained wood look" It was not at all. It was opened in 1983 by Hal Porter and ran the rInk. They all gave excellent reviews which is rare feast for this rink.
It is rare to have good reviews. But hey, you should go skating there! Still operational. Sounds like a good honest owner and management he had with the rink.
Roller Barn Skate Center was not like a barn at all. It was a simple aluminum warehouse-like building with vertical aluminum panels and gable roof. It was in Grey color. The paint by the time the Google Map showed it was faded.
Barn-like materials are found as interior décor but not as much because the interior was not totally in-barn look. It looked like any other rinks. The centerpiece on the rink was on the ceiling were two pinwheel like shape of disco lights instead of the starburst look.
There are more. They had a cart like side for the booths with two metal pinwheels as wheels and a wood guard pretending to be a flat bed wagon that the Wild West used to haul merchandise and wood to their homes or entire family sit on it riding to church, schools, or to go to town from their homesteads.
They did though have wood panels (see photos) to intimating as a barn. It is wrapped on many walls including one area for a birthday party. Room look rather small though but I am sure it was plenty of room.
There are of course, real picnic tables with benches that also highlighted barn-like feel.
What more interesting was that the rink was out near the countryside with a very few businesses surrounding with a business next door that you should really see on the Google Map. It is an artist/crafter making glass trees out of used wine bottles. Very beautiful art work. But that has nothing to do with the rink although skaters arriving can see that clearly and enjoyed those glass trees and are well noticed because it is found on Google Map FOR the rink, not this glass art business. It is very visual from the parking lot of the rink. That really stole the show on the parking lot. I am sure with the skaters were at the parking lot, the owner of the glass art business got a lot of business traffic and sold quite a bit. I have seen those art before when I was working at the Renaissance Festival that a vendor was selling those similar concepts. Beautiful but very expensive art work. I wanted to save money at the time just working 2 days a week at the Ren Fest busy shouting, "Behold, Behold! Fresh Squeeze Lemonade and Cone of Snow! Cometh hitler" in Old English.
I love the theme inside of the building.
Back to the rink. The rink floor apparently was, clearly built with concrete and painted and oiled because of termites and flooding and hurricanes. It did display beautiful two-toned color floor though. It was Cold Dark Navy Grey and Warm light Navy Ship Grey colors. It complimented each other well.
On one end of the rink, it had a mural that sports a graffiti look with the word, "Roller Barn" and several of same person skating on there as if it was reverse mirrors facing each other. The rest of the walls had wood panels like a barn would.
Again, still active. I thought it was closed till I received an email.
