Rolladium, 215 Q Street, Springfield, Oregon
Sound Greek but it was a catchy name combination of Roller and Stadium. Rolladium. This rink was opened in 1963 and it closed at unknown date because that is all was found. It was being built in 1962 to 1963 and it was 23,000 Square Feet building housing the rink. It is now Q Street Plaza.
They had a fire at the rink but no floor damages apparently according to this article on Tuesday May 16, 1967 article in Stateman Journal newspapers. It only spread to the fuse box, storage, repairs area and office. All those area apparently away from public area of the rink, snack bar, rental, etc. But the cost was 70,000 Dollars to repair and new stuff! Huge difference than the cost of the building which was 115,000 Dollars when it was built just five years prior. Apparently it must have been a fuse box fire but not sure.
The logo was quite 1950-ish style that had 4-point starbursts with scriptive name for Rolladium. It was modernism in early 1960s with that left over of 1950s already in that decade when the rink was open. The interior must have been 1950s style too but I have no photos, nothing to show for inside or even the outside. Just only that black and white photo of the owners with their car proudly displayed in front of the rink logo outside. It did show that 1950s style scriptive logo with that "Q-bert" style wall. This rink must been wild in design with that classy look of 1950s-early 1960s appearance. Not too many rinks has that appearance. This reminds me of some of the exhibit buildings at the NY World's Fair of 1964-65 and the Montreal Expo (World's Fair) of 1967.
