Thelma's Skateland 2. Upclose appearance.
Thelma's Skateland 2 2122 Reelfoot W Ave, Union City, TN
Rockin Robin's 2122 Reelfoot W Ave, Union City, TN (STILL OPERATIONAL)
Rockin Robin's 2122 Reelfoot W Ave, Union City, TN (STILL OPERATIONAL)
Since 1979, Thelma's Skateland 2 was open for business at 2122 Reelfoot West Avenue, Union City, Tennessee. This rink was eventually closed sometime ago. Yelp confirmed that customers said that Rockin Robin's closed but that was an error. They are, in fact STILL OPERATIONAL. And was renamed as Rockin Robin's which is still operational today. Manta has it wrong saying the date was 2007. The website for Thelma's Skateland 2 said that rink in Union City was opened since 1979.
To be clear, the skating rink never closed, just opened for business but just change ownership and name changed. That was all.
UPDATE --
I received an email from the current owner today 7 June 2021, Michelle to update this profile--
Thelma’s Skateland 2 opened in 1979 by Charles Hendrix Sr, as posted on our website. Was passed around to family a bit then sold as Thelma’s to Roy McClain as Thelma’s in 1995. Some time between 1995, and 2014, the rink was purchased and the name changed to Rockin Robbins. Rink was not closed, but purchased in 2014, by Charles Hendrix JR.
Rink was sold at the very end of 2015 to the new current owners Michelle and David.
Charles K. Hendrix Sr. built and opened this rink as Rockin Robin's in 1979.
Thanks Michelle for clarification. It helps. Indeed Google was in error saying it was closed. I checked today, it is fixed.
Another thing, this profile stays on because of two reasons--old name, Rockin Robin's qualified as a name to be listed and second of all, to encourage local skaters to check this rink out as well any skaters from around the country or world to come to skate at this wonderful rink! Check them out at Thelma's Skateland 2
The Interior.
It has clear coated Polyurethane coated, non-colored, Maple hardwood floor. it even has a Starburst light on ceiling, a popular disco lights along with popular mirror ball. Made sense because it was opened in 1979 when rinks were operational those days with lights like that.
More recent, they have a wallpaper like carpet on the wall. I believe it IS carpet on the wall with 1980s funky look. Anyway, top of that, is Midnight Blue which looked so awesome. They have a front section with everything off the rink. And I see in a few photos, that section looked very busy than the rink itself.
They said they are working on saving money to replace the carpet. So, skaters, please go support this local wonderful rink and give them much needed update on the carpet. If you want to fund raise, you can. But be sure to follow the letter of the law. For profit business, cannot donate but maybe stocks? Talk with the owners about supporting them
Unfortunately I cannot use the photos because too many people and kids in it. Dead-Rinks is not about people, it is about the rinks itself therefore, I couldn't. It would not do good with photoshop removing them. Sorry about that.
The Exterior.
The property has two buildings. One the main one where the skating rink is and the other, a smaller building that is also a Gable roof steel walled warehouse like that is storage. The rink building on the other hand is that it has Gable roof but Cinderblock walled. Originally in White then they painted in more of.. Royal Blue for Thelma's to match to the other Thelma's.
