Google Map. As Planet Fitness. Taken in 2015. See the Fotomat appearance? No offense. No, that is not Fotomat. It was a rink at one time and that design was part of the building. The smaller building to the left (not shown) has similar design and it was in Royal Blue recently. Yes, the building had an angle wall there to showcase to the road because of a smaller backroad to the right was a huge curve and parallel to the rink building.
Skate Scene USA 1183 Memorial Dr, Chicopee, MA. Article stating they are closing. And the reason why they were closing. Sad. Source: Union - News - Monday, 09 August 1999.
Skate Scene USA 1183 Memorial Dr, Chicopee, MA. Lisa was in the competition as you can see in the video. Wow, she skated gracefully. I feel bad for patrons to stand and watch the competition. No chairs? Oh boy. Scene: Lisa Barsalona/YouTube.
Rock & Rollerskate 1183 Memorial Dr, Chicopee, MA
Skate Scene USA 1183 Memorial Dr, Chicopee, MA
Skate Scene USA 1183 Memorial Dr, Chicopee, MA
Those two names, Rock & Rollerskate and Skate Scene USA were operational on 1183 Memorial Drive, Chicopee, Massachusetts. First it was Rock & Rollerskate but I have no information regarding them but a few with Skate Scene.
J. Bruce Broyles operated the Skate Scene USA. The same man who built and operated and managed the former, United Skates of America in the same town, just a couple of miles up the road where the drive-in theater was. Please click on the name to start there before reading here as it is in correct order of events. The reason for closing was that he could not meet the demands of the mortgage company so it went into foreclosure. The company demanded 1.25 Million USD that the owner could not afford.
Then where in timeline the Rock & Rollerskate fits in? Good question. Was it AFTER the Skate Scene USA? Possible but there is no information. This rink brand name was found on Skating Fitness list. So this is half full of glass on this profile. Anyone know about Rock & Rollerskate? Please let us know.
Currently it is a Planet Fitness center. Many rinks have converted to fitness center.
The Interior.
The building interior had 80 Feet by 175 Feet Clear Coated Maple wood floor. Some of the floor had Cinderblock rails on and only some of the sides had seating only. Really open floor with step down to the rink. DJ booth was high up on a corner of the rink.
The Exterior.
It was flat roof Free-Span Steel Truss Cinderblock walled Warehouse style building that had frontage canopy looked so early 1980s. It looked like a,... no offense... Fotomat booth roof you would find in a shopping plaza in 1980s and 1990s which even they kept the Fotomat Roof Yellow on current Planet Fitness, which occupy currently. It sure does look like that.
The aerial photo on Google Map looked quite long building even the length of the rink was 175. Width did have leeway as you can see on YouTube videos.
The entrance was designed this way with an angle because it was to show the frontage to the road so that the length would parallel with the back road curve.

Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
