Reva Rollerdrome was once a popular stable for smaller town like Auburn with Syracuse, New York nearby. Originally, Reva was at a different location. It was on Clark Street in Auburn where an Aldi is now located. That was where it first opened in 1947.
The popularity grew and it had to move to the current location in 1976 as roller skating was making a come back in the 1970s. The final owners, The Ferros purchased it in 1992.
The Genesee location as shown in 1976 showed how popular roller skating was that year and quite wall to wall shown in the photograph that was taken for the newspaper, The Citizen's Archives taken by Randy Smith.
The interior looked very much like a warehouse look because of the exposed beams high up and high ceiling. The remodeling reduced that warehouse look with a street art "graffiti" look with their name and two neon signs saying Reva. So, that makes it THREE signs saying Reva on the same wall! Was the neon supposed to be for a sign outside?
It was always crowded at this rink even in late 1980s when I was there once. I wanted to go back again but never could do that when there were other rinks closer in 1990s and never had a chance in 2000s and early 2010s. For me, it would have taken me more than 30 minutes drive to reach there driving on Route 5 from Syracuse when living in East Syracuse and Liverpool in past twenty plus years.
Reva started to lose people especially when the weather was nicer out. Usually in upstate NY from Canada to Massachusetts and from Canada to Pennsylvania, people prefer to be outside when weather is nice. Often employees from any business would call in sick to get day off if weather is nice. That is common. Well, that was one of major effect why Reva Rollerdrome had to close. They closed forever on June 7, 2015. almost 70 years. One of the longest running in Central NY.
It was a popular venue for school parties.
Today the owners still own the building but it is put into different purpose for their other ventures.
Revival? I doubt it.
