This is was the original look like with red color. Even matched with the trailer that is parked on the right. Hee hee. Nice match! You noticed the doors were changed compared to the church. See next photo. Both are Google Map's. Above taken in 2015 as below in 2019. Love the dark roof above but nice color below. Sorry folks. I am sure with the original red before it faded, it was truly red.
Red Barn Roller Rink 53 South Main St., Earlville, NY
This cute name, Red Barn Roller Rink was named after this truly red building in Earlville, NY which is about an hour and half drive southeast of Syracuse, NY. Hmm, I sure did not know about this rink and I missed it! Darn it! I could have met those.. Oh never mind that! Yessss. I see some beautiful ones. Haha.
This was truly country feel kind of rink because of the building supposedly be like a barn. I do not have a photo at the moment that would show that building. Only is the sticker.
Dereck Wilson and his family, wife Judie, and their children, Mike and Michele began Red Barn Roller rink. It was registered on Wednesday, May 1, 1974 then it was July 1974 when they first opened. Dereck and Judie Wilson asked their nephew Dusty Brown to manage the rink after Dusty served from 1977 to 1981. The Wilson left to open Rollerbleu in Norwich which was not as successful as Red Barn. Dusty helped out before he went in service. Dusty, thank you for defending the Constitution of the United States and I want to add, for defending our Faith in our LORD Jesus Christ.
They sold the rink in 1996 in hopes it will be passed on to next generation who would continue the rink but unfortunately, the new owner turned it to Antique Barn. Sounds familiar. This was a second rink I have done with the name "Barn" in it and it was sold and it became an Antique Barn! The other one is somewhere in Midwest. Just a week or two ago, the owner of Antique Barn said she is still in business. For her situation she realized it was the geography that make it looks like it is deserted or closed up (because it was on lower land than the main road which happens to be Route 66 and I told her I would help and put a link on Dead-Rinks). But this one in Earlville closed shop and it was sold to a church which was burned down in April 2020.
On Wednesday night, April 8, 2020, at 10:30 PM the fire alarm went off because of Brian C. Carver, 39, of Earlville, torched the Lighthouse Community Church, formerly Red Barn Roller Rink. He has been charged with third-degree arson. He was released but since then I do not know what happened to Brian after his court date in May 2020.
It was a total loss for the Lighthouse Community Church, you may can donate money to support their rebuilt. Here is the link-- Donations to the church can be made at (their original website is down) by going here --
Lighthouse Community Church. Let's help them rebuilt the church.
In meantime, lets the skaters and fans of skating help Red Barn Roller Rink return at a new location.
The way people were at this rink were very family. Very close to each other. Some rinks were different cliché but this one was truly feels very family. That is because of the remote area of where the rink was. Way outside of major cities of Syracuse, Rome, Cortland, Utica, and Binghamton. The skaters considered the original owners and Dusty truly family. This is why I said it feels homely in that rink. The décor gave it that way of the mood.
The Interior.
The floor was Maple. The décor was very 1970s homely feel to it. You know? It had wood paneling on the wall that were popular back the day. The colors were popular as well which were Yellow and Orange.
The rink was 60' by 120' plus off-the-rink was 60' by 60' which brings the total to 10,800 Square Feet. Dusty provided the information. They could accommodate 500 Skaters.
They opened in 1974 but they had to add a new exit doors sometimes between 1977 and 1981 according to Dusty on Facebook.
The floor was redone every July during the summer time because most people in the Northern states prefer to spend time outside. This, they sanded the floor every July and marked the lines and circles out with leather dye and coated with a couple coats of clear Roll-On.
The Exterior.
It may not be exactly a barn but it was a regular Cinderblock Gable building with the main doors on the left side of the front while the exit doors with canopy were in middle right side. It had Barn Red paint on all around the building. But after the rink was sold, I am sure it was painted over for the antique shop then a Christian church.
The extension was for the front door. I believe it was double doors to keep the New York winter cold out.
