Courtesy of Superpages. Very... children folklore look. Busy on the eyes! Which is worse? Entire Astro Skate Pink or Rollerskating the Net checker board look?
Both are of Google Map. it is a church now. Building looks a lot better than the RS the Net look. Very clean modern church look.
Raymond's Rollerland, 4848 Palm Beach Bl., Fort Myers, FL
Rollerskating the Net, 4848 Palm Beach Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL
Raymond's Rollerland was a rink in one of the southernmost city on the Gulf of Mexico side of Florida where Thomas Edison had his winter home. That is a museum now and well recommended you visit that museum. I liked that museum. The most famous inventor happened to be deaf. 1100 inventions. He lived during the time when other famous inventors including Henry Ford, John Deere, Firestone, Alexander G. Bell, and of course, James Plimpton--the inventor of Roller Skates quads we all know today plus a roller rink all had lived during the time.
The same for Rollerskating the Net which was a Christian ministry. A non-profit. For both, do not know when they closed, open, closed again and size of rink...
But for the residents of Fort Myers, they enjoyed skating at Raymond's. It was a Gable warehouse style building. The building was built in 1961 and it has 17,636 Square Feet. I am not sure what it was before Raymond's which was opened in 1972. Was there another rink between 1961 and 1972? 11 years is long enough to have been a rink, I believed. Raymond Summerall established the business by filing on October 31, 1972. Raymond ran the rank for a while. It has no information on when it went out of business. However, it became Rollerskating the Net, a Christian roller skating ministry.
I have no idea what it was before Raymond's to know for sure what it looked like. And not sure about Raymond's either. But for Rollerskating the Net. It showed that 90s look with standard Black and White checkers on the exterior wall with Purple roof by the door entrance. The logo was quite very teen-isque for its time. It had Green outline with purple fonts. It reminded me of a snowmobile brand using those colors.
Now the rink is gone and the building turned out real nice updated and trendy for 2000s with Beige or Tan color for its exterior and the Purple roof? It became Dark Red which represents the Blood of Jesus Christ. The facility is now a Hispanic speaking Christian charismatic church.
There is no interior photos of the rink before it became a church. You will easily find something they retained! That beloved Maple wooden floor with the Log Cabin style rink! Praise God for that picture that showed the evident of the floor remained there. Was the church trying to preserve it in case the church outgrow its facility and can sell the building to the next rink owner? Who knows.
It sure does look like the church is growing and out of room for its members to sit and to stand to Praise God.
