Courtesy of Super Skate Facebook fan page. This was part of Rainbow Skateland at the same location. It was operating in 1980s and 1990s before sold to Super Skates owners. This showed 1980s view of the skate rental and benches to change your skates with your shoes.
All photos courtesy of Super Skate of Pinellas. Noticed the bottom photo showed the step up that has lights? This is quite unusual and quite high to step up when you are on skates. This is rather quite unusual. Usually rinks itself has maybe 2 to 3 inches lower than the carpet floor. However, this appeared to be standard step of 6 to 8 inches. Too much! And that half wall was on a 30 or 45 degree sharp turn from standard rink half wall. This is another unusual design. Bit of awkward I say. Love that huge American flag by against the back side wall (see second from bottom photo). See the 50s style awing? Neat. The entrance felt like a movie theater entrance. Really nice curved skate rental counter. Real Googie design. Well clean design of skate rental shelves too. And well care of. One of best design for updated rink of 21st Century.

Super Skate of Pinellas, 9185 Ulmerton Road, Largo, FL (Final rink)
This rink was just a few blocks from another rink that was on the same street in same town. Largo is a suburb of Tampa. This rink along with that other rink that was closed as well was a huge loss for the area.
There are not much information I could get such as who started this rink and closure. But pretty much found on Facebook advertising and photos and a gym website that list all gyms and fitness/activities. That is all was listed. Was it Pam and Gene Morris started this rink as they did with Rainbow Skateland down the road?
However, good thing I got photos! Now, I have one exterior that showed how popular this rink was! LONG line! And this is not the 1970s. This was more recent times. It date stamped on Facebook as it was in early 2010s.
They had Sunburst Yellow look with Red color as updated colors but before that, it was Arctic Green color for exterior. It had that 1950s style awing over the glass doors, I had hard time to figure out which is the place on Google Map. I believe it is now that collision repair place but I am not sure. And yes, the colors changed too with nice new pavement. Or was that next door that is entirely gone. All field now with grass growing. The map pinpoint exact address number right in between that collision repair place and empty land. Anyone know what happened to this popular rink? Why did it close? And when did it first open?
The owners and management seem to be friendly with competitors including the defunct Rainbow Rollerland which was way up in block number 2000s on the same street. Must be Rainbow was in operations long before Super Skate did. I could not find any information related to that rink but thanks to the Super Skate that has a photo of the sign. Oh well.
The interior had a nice interior. Love that Arctic Green color with several colors including Midnight Blue. The snack bar eating area had linoleum floor covering in checkers appearance of both Blue and Light Blue. What more interesting was that they had a step up in the carpet area. To reach the rink, you had to step up then get to the rink and then skate. It had Maple wood, clear coated. And had special coating as well.
This is one of best designed rink. Looks clean, nice color combinations, the skate rental counter, etc. I could not see any pictures of snack bar counter.. But I am sure it had that same effect as the rental has. This is true modern 21st Century rink and all that people and then they are gone? What happened!?
Needs a lot of information related to opening, closing, why out of business, who ran this, and the dimensions of the rink, building...
UPDATE: I discovered that Rainbow Rollerland WAS at the SAME location as Super Skate before. It was at the same location. And yes, it is confirmed that Both Rainbow and Super Skate is where that automobile collision repair shop is located today. Sorry your favorite Maple wood floor is gone. I would love to retrieve any defunct wooden floor and use it in the actual physical museum I would like to set up with many defunct rinks' maple wood squares I would cut.. maybe 5' by 5' square and hang it up on the wall with banners next to them explaining where all of them were from. And any thing such as actual carpets, old rental skates, diamond balls, anything.
