Likely this was taken before the color photo on top. Another thing, We Americans tend to say minutes instead of miles to reach a destination. Because Normally the time it takes to reach a destination is different. For example, a gas station from my home is 1 mile and it takes me 3 minutes because of 3 stop signs, by third stop sign, turning left takes more time because of heavy traffic before reaching the gas station. So, we say its 3 minutes. 1 mile on the highway, we say 50 seconds. Source: Pinterest.

Puritas Spring Park Rollerwind was once a roller rink in the Puritas Spring Park, an amusement park in Cleveland, Ohio. Like many trolley parks, interubran parks, and electric parks as well as early amusement parks, this park was one of the Trolley/Interurban Parks that was owned and built by the Cleveland, Berea, Elyri & Oberlin Railway Company.
First, in the mid 1890s, the company purchased land in the area and began to bottle and sell bottle water from the local springs. The park was a popular west side amusement resort which was built in 1898 by John E. Gooding of Painesville. It was located on the north side of Puritas Rd., overlooking the Rocky River Valley right by the bottling plant and the springs. John started the 80 acres park but the roller rink was not built till 1922.
But in 1898, Early steam carousel operator John Gooding decided to install one of his carousels at Puritas Springs Park. That lead him to purchase in 1900/1901 the entire land from the rail company. John leased the land from the rail company as they were about to start an amusement park. So, this park is classified as an Amusement Park, not a Trolley/Interurban Park because it was not owned by a rail company in 1900 and on.
With little advertising budget, this was a rising popular amusement park with the best coaster in the Cleveland, Ohio area with the Cyclone roller coaster. The Cyclone was higher and faster than any other coaster in the Cleveland area at the time.
In 1922, James E. Gooding began the roller rink but in 1938, He passed away and his daughter, Pearl Visoky took over operations and became president of the amusement park. Then James Gooding's grandson, James took operations but he sold it in 1958 because of rising insurance costs, fewer attendances admit rapid developments of the 1950s with new homes in Post-War era have hurt the park. James sold to a developer and he built homes and a shopping center.
There are quite a bit of conflict of information. The signboard historical marker said that James E. Gooding bought the park in 1915, not starting the park and said he started the roller rink in 1915. We need better researchers! Several website has 2 entirely different stories. This is necessary to go back to libraries, any family members and the rail company's records that might state who owned and when they owned the park plus when the rink began. So, this will have both versions unless you, the reader, might be able to solve this mystery. Email me at [email protected].
Will any of the family members directly from James E. Gooding such as great-grandchildren or great-great-grandchildren can describe when to me by contacting me? Second of all, any family members that their family members owned the rail company also can contact me. Anyone?
Interesting to notice that the name Puritas is Spanish meaning Pure or Purity.

Since I could not pinpoint which building was the roller rink. There were two in this aerial photographs. Likely from what I see and compare between the two, its the dark roof building farthest from the main road where the park entrance was. It is a Monitor Gable roof building.
