Polar Roller Rink, Fairbanks, AK
I know what you are thinking. "Polar Roller Rink" does not sound like a proper name but that was the name of the rink in Fairbanks, Alaska. Polar would sound like an ice rink. NOW it is an ice rink. It was irony.
It was the final rink in Fairbanks and perhaps for hundreds of miles but I do not know. No wonder a man named Floyd Terry who is a roller skating advocate was pushing hard for a rink in Fairbanks. You should read this article about him. But that has nothing to do with him connecting to the rink although he did because at the time in 1998 when Polar Roller Rink closed, he was living in Fairbanks. Links are shown below.
He grew up and started to skate in 1942 at the rink in Celeron, New York. where Lucille Ball of I love Lucy fame lived and yes she even went to the rink in the 1950s! To make story short, by 1998, he could not skate more because of Polar Roller Rink closed. People told him to open up one. He is 82 (at the time of newspaper articles about him which was in 2014)
Unfortunately, I do not have any other information about the rink itself! Just more about how the rink closing touched Floyd Terry. This is why this profile is listed. And stays in Green so you can open and see for yourself.
