Plaza Theater Skating Rink 2437 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA
Plaza Theater Skating Rink 2437 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA
Plaza Theater Skating Rink was in fact a movie theater at 2437 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Not much information however, it was listed in Hidden City Phila.
This theater originally called Spier's Theatre first opened in 1907. They had Vaudeville. Charles E. Oelschlager who was the architect returned in 1912, to enlarge and remodel the auditorium and backstage areas.
Plaza Theater was named as early as 1912 according to The American Architect --04 September 1912 stated --
“…the Plaza Theatre, at Broad and Porter Sts.” had been acquired by William W. Miller, operator of the William Penn Theatre. The item mentioned Charles Oelschlager as architect for the project Miller planned to carry out on the site.
In Boxoffice magazine dated 09 January 1938:
The Plaza Theater, South Philadelphia, was conveyed last week by the Spiers Theater Realty Corp. to the Stanley Company of America for $13,496, subject to a mortgage of $16,000.
By 1941 it was operated by Warner Bros. Circuit Management Corp. The Plaza Theatre closed on 01 July 1951 with Kenneth Tobey in “The Thing from Another World” and Stewart Granger in “Soldiers Three”.
Likely after that July 1951, it became a roller rink. No solid evidence but likely around there till late 20th Century.
It was later demolished.
Currently, it is a library, Fumo Family Library.

Second of all: The contents including words and photos above on this page and/or on any pages are purely educational entertainment purposes only. All sources are shown on each page. All opinions and statements of mine are also stated and are for purely educational entertainment only.
Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
