Playland Roller Skating Rink 4405 Buford Highway, Atlanta, GA
Playland Roller Skating Rink was likely built in early 1960s and closed by 1987 because of the building on Realty Trac said it was built in 1987. It does look modern on Google Map 3D so I am waiting to hear by from the group Admin for information for this former rink.
In meantime, I cannot fill out more about the rink but some of things I can try. There is a photo shown online as part of a library and it said that it was building a new sign. A photographer saw they were posting it and dated to be October 25, 1966 when he took that picture. This pinpointed to when the rink first opened to be in or around October 1966.
Closed in 1987 as a possible date because a new building was built at the former rink site and it showed
The Interior.
It had Clear coated plastic protective Maple floor but I do not know what layout it was. But the colors on the wall were classic 1970s-80s colors when I saw 1980s colored pictures of teenagers skating (and tons of them on their group page on Facebook). The Dark Chocolate was on bottom half of the wall while the upper half was more Carmel or Tan colored walls and posts.
It had vaulted White foamed with Black trim panel support grid.
The carpet was sort of ahead of time that it had wild design on the carpet with mostly Tan background on it. A forerunner to the current Black with neon color skate center carpets.
The Exterior.
While I have no official photo of the rink, closest I can guess are very old aerial photographs from a report and a photo of sisters in the Facebook group for Playland rink.
