Plamor Roller Rink 1422 US-169, Grand Rapids, MN. This was taken in 1950 according to someone on Four square. This was also shown on that rink's Facebook however, it is gone. I checked Facebook. None. In this version you would see a very difficult sign with the name PLAMOR ROLLER RINK above the door in the foyer part of the building. Source: J. Miller on Four Square.

Pla-Mor Roller Rink 1422 US-169, Grand Rapids, MN
Plamor Roller Rink 1422 US-169, Grand Rapids, Minnesota. This is another rink fell victim due to the Great Virus Lockdown of 2021. It is quite sad that they had to close because of that virus known as COVID-19 along with other variants of flu and related viruses.
Many rinks closed because of this that the governments around the world have forced thousands of businesses to closed for good. Roller rinks was no exception. They too faced closures for good due to limits of patrons enter the buildings, skaters and patrons were scared of catching viruses. Truly tragedy among everyone and had effect. Also rising costs of insurance, inspections, living expenses that forced people to retreat from roller rinks and other entertainments first because of costs. Lumber is up 400 percent. Dollar Tree rise prices to 1.25 per items and now adding other items that cost more. It is logical sense for many to carve out entertainment to focus on more important to live by: shelter, food, clothes, automobiles, gas, and insurance.
Here is what Shari reported to me about this rink closed today in her email and replied back, also today, with more information. Thank you so much Shari!
The rink is owned by Glen Laspina. I know that his parents owned it before him. It has been for sale a few times in the past 10 years, but never sold. When everything shut down in March (2020) that included the roller rink. They announced a couple weeks ago on their Facebook page that they would not be reopening. Their Facebook page has since been deleted. [They deleted it too soon! I wish I knew this and would have had photo captures and all but I was able to find ONE]
The rink was badly in need of an update. It still had the original wood floor and rented the old high ankle boots. But it was a cheap fun place for the kids to hang out. The last time they were open, it was $8 to skate for 2 hours. They ran 2 sessions each night and where open Friday and Saturday.
Plamor also had another name spelled as Pla-mor.
It began in 1950 according to someone. I am not sure. The Facebook page is down and no website either. So, no way to contact anybody. They must have closed it immediately.
I love the design on the outside really.
The Interior.
They had beautiful Hardwood Maple floor, likely non-painted. Polyurethane coated likely in later years.
The Exterior.
Beautiful Segmental Arch Building with foyer extension of the building in front that served also with Segmental Arch roof to match. This is most beautiful example to use to show others. It was White as Snow ever since its opening. The owners retained that appearance for those number of years well.
They also had old sign and replaced part of it. Apparently old and very simple flashing arrow pointing to the rink. It was right next door to several single wide trailers. I think that was a dealer itself.
