Pines Roller Rink 338 South Main Street, Bowling Green, OH
Pines Roller Rink 338 South Main Street, Bowling Green, Ohio was once a roller rink. The building is gone and a new building is there.
I do not have much information. Just discovered a photograph and an article.
Don Canfield owned and operated Pines Roller Rink. Interesting name to be called, Pines Roller Rink. I have no idea why Pines. Usually associate to an evergreen tree or.. wait! PINE as in pine wood! Was the floor pine? Uh oh. That is the softest wood there is 380 mar. (Maple which is common on roller rinks the best floor because of the mar is at 1450 with the Janka Hardness.) The website will explain the hardness and the process of testing the wood. You will see the differences. Pine is too soft that even basketball, running, and flipping with roller skates on as you jam skate, you will create craters on the wood. You will feel like skating on the moon or planet Mars with those craters. Much harder wood is harder to cut and more expensive to retrieve such as Brazilian Walnut wood which I have already seen and felt. It felt as hard as a rock-- just like concrete floors.
If that is true the floor was pine. Oh man. I hope not.
I do not know the dates of open and closing.
The Interior.
Pine floor? I hope not.
The Exterior.
Free-Span Steel Trusses Wood - Walled façade Arena - like Building, Segmental Arch. There is wood on the walls and it may be really be Pine the same as the name of the rink. Who knows.
