Before Garden Roller Rink, Perry's Roller Rink housed at 5656 US Route 60, Ashland, Kentucky. But both rinks are not there anymore. HOLD THAT RIGHT THERE! GARDEN ROLLER RINK IS COMING BACK IN OR AROUND SEPTEMBER 2021!
But William Franz co-owned Garden Roller Rink (RSAI) since 1985 according to a Facebook group - Garden Roller Rink Reunion Tour. Bill also operated the rink but never fully owned the rink and it was dream to own it completely.
Before I go on further, let this profile be in memory of William "Bill" Franz who died of COVID on October 4th, 2020. There is a Go-Fund-Me website to raise money and I urge you to donate money and help out to buy out the rink from the other two owners. It is more complicated with his death and the estate. Currently the Garden Roller Rink is closed and because of COVID, it is shut down. However, it will reopened as rebooted with the same name, Garden Roller Rink in September 2021.
Here is the Go-Fund-Me website page to raise capital. As of March 21, 2021, they only raised small-- Merely 2,990 USD! That is small. Real small. BUT THEY WILL BE BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2021! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORTING THIS RINK!
I highly recommend you help out a rink then only this page is for Perry's that was a rink before Garden Roller Rink. However, I do count previous life of the rink of same name -Garden Roller Rink, similar concept with the Empire Skates West which was operating twice.
Likely Garden was closed in March 2020 due to Covid Lockdowns and later, the owner passing.
UPDATE -- (Haha, please not that TV series with the Late Robert Stack. It is different, folks!)
Ok, I got an email from J.E.-- (Edited for Clarification/grammar).
The rink was built in 1976. Ron Perry lease it from Bill's father from 1976-1986 lease ran out Bill's father ask him, "Do you think you could run the rink?" Bill said, "Yes." [So] Bill and his brother David Franz [operated] the rink in December of 1986. David passed away on July 8th 2011. After that, it was just Bill until I came in and help him take care of the rink.
UPDATE --
I got an email recently that it will be reopened hopefully in September. Here is J.E. has to say --
Garden Roller Rink is coming back alive hoping in September still going to be named Garden Roller Rink.
Thank you so much J.E.! This is fantastic that Garden Roller Rink is back!
The Interior.
It has pretty nice Clear coated Polyurethane coated Maple floor with simple design interior. The walls are exposed to steel sheet metal the same as exterior. I am sure they have a heater in winter and air conditioning in summer running. They have many games including a pool table, foosball table, and air hockey. The floor does need sanding and recoated. But they need the money to do so.
The wall color interior is Industrial Blue. Popular color in 1990s and 2000s. I love that color still.
They even have Red for base by the rink. There is a Roller Roo mural on the wall by the corner on the snack bar area.
The Exterior.
The exterior you can see is a Free-Span Steel Truss Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building with a Salt-Box roof. You can see clearly it is because one appeared shorter than the other, lengthwise on the side. They have 2 tone colors on the front. White and Industrial Blue. But the sides are all White. I believe that is a house immediately behind the rink that sits on a hill.
