Credit: Google Map taken in July 2018. Currently as Stereo Garden night club.
Credit: Greater Patchogue website. Photo dated November 1959. Poor guy get caught in photo after he fell. Only photo connected to the rink. Sadly, nothing online.
Photos courtesy of 7dias7noches.net website. Noticed in first photo showed the arched curved roof trusses that remains of the roller rink. The night club entirely changed everything. Likely took out the wood floor and dig in to make a sunken dance floor. The stage is to the back of the photographer. Second photo shows the stage and better view of the sunken floor. Clearly, the area was a rink.
Patchogue Roller Rink, 9 Railroad Ave., Patchogue, New York
This twice-operated rink of same name was in Patchogue, NY and the rink was named after it. It had a long history although the history was not just the rink itself. It is the building had a long history especially of changes throughout its history. Mainly it was entertainment venue although other purposes have used the building as well.
First the rink was opened during 1930s. Exact year and date is unknown. However, it ran until early 1950s. Again, unknown exact year and date. However, the rebooted Patchogue Roller Rink was opened on Thursday May 27, 1954 according to Billboard publication dated June 5, 1954. Its closure was around 1960s.
The second time around the new owner had the rink joined the RSROA. The reopening night was an Open House and they had 500 skaters attended. That is quite a bit by standards. The rink was medium sized. This could mean less than an Ice Hockey Rink size. The structure had a flat and curved roof design and a stair to the main door on the right when facing the building. The curved roof was specifically where the rink was located. The front part is where rentals, snack bar, etc were located.
The rink was opened from 8:30 PM to 11:15 PM according to a musical program from the 1940s. The rebooted, we do not know what time. However, that session opened pretty late considering most rinks since Disco era began 6 PM or 7 PM. That must be for adults only and for all types of roller dances including roller dances, figure skating, couple skating.. all to the organ music.
It may have had a stage after all because of a photograph of a skater who fell on the floor and two others helping him up. Long after the rink closed, it became bars, the Emporium and Stereo Garden. And those two bars had a stage. There was no exact date of closure for both rinks and reasons for closing up shop as well. Needs information.
There are no more pictures than just that gentleman who fell on the floor. I was unable to find more photos. Photos of exterior and interior of the facility are needed. And information as well.
