Ocean View Rink Rockland, ME
Ocean View Rink was a roller rink in Rockland, ME. Unfortunately that is all I could find about them since I was researching for a different rink in Rockland that was closed in more recent times. This one showed in search that was an old newspaper article about some skaters took dancing lesson after having a session at the Ocean View rink in Rockland. The very same that went watching figure and couple skating in Boston as the article said.
This is only information I could find about this very rink. Unfortunately not much to go on. Google Map showed a lot of Ocean View business names along Interstate 95 between Portland and Massachusetts.
Looks like this rink was mainly used for couple skating and figure skating at the time. The newspaper, Courier Gazette on Saturday October 14, 1939 showed on page 2 about the rink. This is very interesting about the newspaper that the sports section was already on page 2 instead of last page. Clearly back then sports were more important section for sports fans to read in the news and the news were on back burner. It is like having to ignore more important issues of the day which was the European and Pacific theaters of World War Two that the Allies were attacked by the Nazi and the Japanese. The Nazi sank a British ship resulting a 1000 lives were lost and that article about the ship was quite small the size of a classified ad you recalled reading in the papers for decades.
That sound familiar. Our media today is the same way to ignore the importance of our lives and the sake of our Republic. You recalled how the media treated the President of the United States Donald Trump, COVID, etc.
Anyway, on the other hand.. or rather other page, the sports section. Roller skating and bowling were big sports during the first seventy years of the 20th Century before both of its decline. You noticed their popularity were big in that section.
I have no other information about that rink.. so it is under red font although a link to this page so you can see the article.
