O K Skateland 2212 S 4th St, Chickasha, OK
O K Skateland was located on 2212 South 4th Street in Chickasha, Oklahoma. This rink was operational for a while.
This rink ran for a long time and I do not know much history before November 2001. That is because the last rink business owner owned this place. They were Jerry and Sheila Layman. They did buy the building at the time but they sold the building but kept the rink operational till they closed in September 2018. They operated for 17 years under this owner but I need to know who else owned and was it the same name or different name?
The last owners sold the building in March 2009 to an investor of the building and leased from him. Kathy Blackburn Prigmore was the manager for the rink in 1980s. But still need owners name and want to know the original names.
I believe the owners before the Laymans were The Krieger family. I am not sure.
The walk score was 56 points which was pretty good for walking to the rink.
By December 2018, just 3 months after it was closed, the building was demolished. Google Map top view showed it was cleared.
The Interior.
It was beautiful rink floor with Maple hardwood floor. It was non-painted but had a coating on. It had straight floor with 90 degrees wood on each end. It was like Log Cabin layout but it was different. Each side the wood was straight to the ends of the rink with center at each end lay like a Log Cabin but not like steps version I see many rinks do have with Log Cabin floor.
The walls were rather dark. Dark Red, with some Black, among other dark colors. Although it did appear spacious inside especially between the rink and the resting area with snack bar. The eating area was linolieum or vinyl flooring. Black and White Checker pattern. But the rest area was Dark Red carpeting.
There were some rails in Iron pipes style. And some others in Cinderblocks even painted with Black paint to outline the mortar for the blocks! And the blocks were in an off Red color. More toward Pinkish.
It was bit odd but it was beautiful inside because of feel of roomy there. The building owner did not have to tear it down. I do not know what it became of.
The Exterior.
Free-Span Steel Trusses Steel-Walled Warehouse - like Building with 5 bay car wash attached. The roof is Gable for the rink, Mansard for the car wash. The carwash is so modern and seek for the 1970s look with Brown Bricks and Dark Aluminum roof sheets.
On the other hand, the rink building had all White walled with extreme large words, K SKATELAND. Apparently the new car wash covered up the O. Originally it did spell out as O K Skateland before the garage was built.
There was a tiny snow cones stand on the same property. It was called Jungle Ice. Beautiful graphic work on that name. Logo I meant with a Parrot enjoying his snow cone. There are a couple more really large murals of snow cone. Their menu of flavor was quite numerous because I see it was so many. I never seen a stand with this many flavors!
I believe it was operational along with the rink but it is permanently closed as well. Without the rink, it is done with for the snow cone stand which is quite small as a personal lawn mower shed.
It is demolished.
