Old Skating Rink 140 Virginia Avenue, Lyons, KS (Current)
A very interesting skating rink named Mr. Skate was at this A-Model Quonset Hut on 140 Virginia Avenue, Lyons, Kansas. This is truly a classic style roller rink of yesteryear.
I do not have much information about the rink as I attempted to research. However, the building really puts an interest. Like I said about the building, the Three-Points Arch Quonset Hut which is not like the Q-Model Hut because of the shape you have to see. The regular Quonset you see out there are pure arched from ground to ground like a C facing down. See the photo again and you will see it describe. In fact, this hut may not be a A-Model because the shape is different. It has much sharper tip on the top than the A-Model Huts. Similar to Three-Point Arch at the most.
This hut has a point on top with a slight curve on each which resembled as Pointed Segmental Arch, well, almost. Q-Model is quite perfect half-barrel smooth curve like as if you take your drafting tool--the compass you put drafting pencil lead in and turn to make a circle. Well, similar concept of what a classic Q-Model Quonset Hut is.
This one is different. Like I said, somewhat similar to Three-Point Arch Quonset Hut.
After Mr. Skate Roller Skating Rink closed, it became Old Skating Rink, which is NOT a roller skating rink. It is a NIGHT CLUB. Just to let you all know that. It is a Hispanic community night club with bands playing there often as seen on their Facebook.
The Interior.
Exposed ceiling, no insulations. Well heated for sure. Wood ceiling down to about waist line. Also it has Steel Trusses but they are thin. Perhaps for decorative.
The floor-- entire floor with clear coated Maple.
The Exterior.
Three-Point Arch Quonset Hut with raw Metallic Steel color. Front door was at the front end of the Hut. The arch would be similar to the Stone Byzantine Arches, inverted of course.
