Mr. Q's Family Skate Center 85 N Fayette Street, York, PA
Mr. Q's Family Skate Center 85 North Fayette Street, York, Pennsylvania was a roller rink until a massive fire destroyed the rink on 16 January 2022.
Frank Quintin and Penny Quintin are the owners and operators of family run skating rink for 60 years. The original location is unknown but they must have purchased the former bowling alley at the 85 North Fayette Street and converted in 2016 into a roller rink.
The Quintin family has owned skating rinks in central Pennsylvania for more than 50 years, including several Roll 'R' Way facilities in York County.
The fire I see on the news-clip was truly destructive. The roof is gone and the walls still stands but everything is all burnt.
"It was fully involved when we got here around 7 (p.m.)," West Manchester Township Fire Chief Cliff Laughman said on Monday. "Public works was out plowing the streets, and they came up to the firehouse and said there was a fire." It was one of the biggest snow storm of the year in the Northeast US and they happened to see the fire. This reminded me of another rink that the heavy snow caused a roof to collapse and caused a fire. Ironically, it was another rink in the same state, Pennsylvania! This one was few years before Mr. Q's fire. Both occurred during heavy snow fall. They have not said the reason for the fire but from my understanding, it is similar.
Damage is estimated at $1 million.
The community already are setting up fund raising for a rebuilt. We will see and pray that they can do this.
Since around 1962 until 2016, the location was elsewhere.
All info below are related to the 2016 location.
The Interior.
Originally was a bowling center and you can tell with the ceiling that curved down to the wall which was the end of the lanes for bowling.
The lanes area became roller rink. The rest of the building was modified such as renovated the bathrooms as it was same location, kitchen, etc.
My favorite part of the place was very unique design for an opening for skate rental. They had angled wall opening. See photo. No other rinks had that unique design since I have to say that rink in Michigan that is still active. (See the banner picture that are in orange).
The opening is a diagonal. The point A to B is the same as C to D but the diagonal from point A to C and B to D are angled. That is exactly what I am referring to at this rink. When you are seeing that page, See diagram C.
The Exterior.
