Mr. G's Skate Inn 598 Arrow Avenue (at 6th Street NE), South Dakota
This rink was the third known rink in that town. Seemly for each generation, then they open a new rink. This was opened in 1973 and was short lived for 4 years till it closed in 1977. It was operational along side the other competitor, Spider Web II.
Mr. G's was more standard than the very unique Spider Web I and II. Only one photo was available and it was provided by Lindsay Schwinger who explained about Mr. G's among with other rinks in her hometown, Watertown, SD.
In 1973, Gordon R. Garnos purchased the former Nordstrom building at the corner of Arrow Avenue and 6th Street NE in Watertown. According to Map Google, the building was likely demolished and there is a used auto dealership likely has taken its place because of the Pontiac dealership was located there according to someone on Facebook. Did the math to figure where but I could be wrong. It could be cross the street on Arrow a storage facility is located. One or the other. If that was the case, it was at 598 Arrow Avenue NE.
It is a black and white photo. I will get more information as I keep in touch with Lindsay. The building looked aged when Mr. G's Skate Inn first opened. It looked 1920's/30's for that building. That photo has to be a newspaper photograph.
Mr. G's was owned by a Mr. G! Gordon Richard Garnos was very involved in the community. He was once a reporter and Watertown Public Opinion Newspaper Editor for over 30 years. Apparently well-beloved man who loved to sing and was in a quartet and at church.
Someone said it was a Pontiac dealership at one point. I do not know if it was prior or after the rink business.
I do not have any details of interior.
