This was a skating rink before it was sold in 2010 into The Rink Event Center. I believe that The Rink Event Centre and Rink Center Fitness Center. Unfortunately for both they are closed. First the actual rink then The rink Event Centre closed in early 2019.
The building was beautiful Dusty Sky Blue and White striped steel Free Span Arched building. It was originally up for sale in November 2011 and finally sold in January 2012. The renovated the rink. Unfortunately I have no photographs of the rink as a skating rink prior to selling to the owners of The Rink Event Centre which literally used the name "The Rink" for a booking-an-event center for wedding receptions, weddings, fitness--usually dances, and trade shows. If you see the photos in their Facebook, you will see how beautiful set up were for wedding receptions and concerts and more. Very professional. Some rinks were sold to become such event centers.
Here is a fan named Sierra who wrote to me about this rink.
Hello, I just wanted to reach out regarding the Monticello Roller Rink article you have on your website. As it so happens my grandfather actually built and owned the original rink I believe in the 70’s. I’ll have to ask him if he has any pictures of the interior in its hey day. I used to go there quite a bit as a kid (up until 2008/2009) although it was under new management at that point. The interior never changed, it always had that wonderful retro feel on the inside and I loved that about it. My mom has a lot of fond memories working there and skating as a kid as well, it was really a shame to see the business finally close. I think it’s really neat what you’re doing to keep memories like that alive. I’ll have to find those photos!
I love retro feel! Or actual retro (or even keeping in original). I understand that Sierra! I know how you feel. Cannot wait for the photos! Woo! That would be nice!
By seeing the floor, it was poured concrete polyurethane coated floor with Grey color. In fact, they left some lines on the skating floor! Perhaps for figure skating back then.
The renovated made it looks so dreamy and clean look. Usually white walls, and white pendants.
I have no idea why both skating rink and The Rink Event Centre closed for good.
When it was skating rink, there was a miniature golf course in the back of the Rink because of the light fixtures outside and you can see over the fence on this Google Map (see above). Likely ran along with skating rink.
The Google photos were taken in 2008. Likely Monticeillo Skating Rink closed a few years before the date, 2008 stamped by Google Map because of the mini-golf course were growing tall dead grasses and weeds overtaking them. The top view is more recent and has expanded with school buses for a school bus garage cross the street that they needed extra parking space. Likely it is overtaken by that company now.
Strangely, Google did not update that street mapping from their vehicle ever since 2008! Ha. Google!
