Misquamicut (Casino) Skating Rink, 321 Atlantic Ave, Misquamicut, RI
Let not the name confuse you that it was called Misquamicut Casino as a roller rink. It was more than just a rink. Originally called Atlantic Beach Casino Skating Rink. It was a place where people come to gather to enjoy recreation and amusement. You see, in December 1911, the Westerly and Norwich Traction Company extended their trolley line to Pleasant View, giving residents and visitors a direct line to downtown Westerly, Rhodes Island.
It was so the same year the rink was opened. It ran for a long time. It did not say when it was closed for good to become Windjammer Restaurant that is still operational. From what I saw in the pictures in the restaurant's website, they sound and look very good restaurant. Very surf-y beach restaurant with bunch of creative unique dishes for you to order on their menu. Some I never seen before and I live in the Northeast US. The beach amusement park was means to be a trolley park because of the trolley and had the rink. This was common that rinks were at trolley parks (look up this one as well as Coloren, Suburban Park in Manlius, NY, Seabreeze in Irondequoit, NY, Coney Island, and more.
The name change I do not know when but they they were one and same till it closed. One might add a clue is this. Or clues. One of those hurricanes.. but likely it was closed and reopened as Windjammer Restaurant in early 1980s by the look of the interior or restaurant. The interior clearly had wooden floor according to photos on Windjammer restaurant website.
The Casino was located on the beach. In old photos, you will see sandy beach in front of where the Casino is located but according to WindJammer, it was eroded by hurricanes throughout the years including Sandy, it has replaced by boulders and big rocks as barriers.
Most recent damages were by Hurricane Sandy in early 2010s.
