Milton Park Roller Rink Milton Park, 120 W. Second St, Wellston, OH. I cannot tell the date. You see, the gentleman with a hat on was popular in 1910s but the shirt with this guy wearing while skating shown in the picture on the left is 1940s-50s camp shirt. So, I would have to say 1940s. Is that guy's eye ok? He appeared to be rubbing it. I hope he is ok. Anyway, the one on the right, the man in muscle shirt and the boy.. Likely they are father and son. The way the 2 women standing on the rink. Sound familiar. Many skaters do that a lot lately. They seemly to be dressed like 1940s. I have to say 1940s. Anyone know about those pictures? Milton Park Roller Rink was a tent rink set up at Milton Park in Wellston, Ohio. It was one of those early basic weekly or seasonal rink. The photos showed it was in first half of 20th Century. Likely 1940s, maybe 1950s. Maybe older than that.
I do not know when they first started and when they ended the rink. But the park itself, Milton Park closed and it became a Fruth Pharmacy and a grocery store (First, Foodland, then Piggly Wiggly) built in after 1983 according to USGS on the same spot which destroyed the park. Rarely towns let public parks be destroyed like that.
The Interior.
It was open rink meaning it was a tent rink. No walls. Exposed to outdoors elements. It has wood, likely Maple. But not sure. I noticed with this one, you can see how the outdoor tent rink set up were like. They had huge squares. Please look at 2nd photo (right) and you will see how the lines dividing the wood.. I would have to say it is like a pallet. I would have to say it is a pallet style platform. All wood straight lines.
The Exterior.
It was a standard Canvas tent rink that they set up for a week or two or a month or even for the season. Likely for this one, it was a season perhaps from May to September. No walls. Just rails around the rink to separate skaters from patrons watching skaters skate. Looked like skating was more popular than baseball in the same park according to photos on Wellston Historical Society Facebook page.
