Midway Roller Rink Route 73, Middletown, OH
Midway Roller Rink was located on Route 73, Middletown, Ohio before they had a massive fire that destroyed the rink on Sunday, 27 November 1955 as reported by Billboard magazine, 10 December 1955, page 63.
This rink was in operational for a time and they had, in fact, a few small fires often at the rink which is bit unusual. It was usually the faulty wire circuit fuse box. This time on that early morning of Sunday, 27 November 1955, it was a huge fire that ended the rink but the residence there was spared. From what I read, sounds like they could have had it replaced and built another box to ease the wattage per fuse. Often rinks use a lot of power to use for disco lights. Well, this is 1950s that it was rarely they had disco lights. Not till after say, 1965 ish.
Sound like it was wood frame built.
The building had an apartment where Bernie Hauck, the operator of the Midway Roller Rink, lived. That was spared in the fire.
Anyone know what the rink was like, photos, and date of first open?
The Interior.
It had an organ which was on loan and owned by WPFB, a local radio station.
The Exterior.
It was 2 parts-- the rink business section of the building and the other was residence where the apartment was.
