Courtesy of Yelp. At night. Beautiful picture. Yelp is reporting that storage company has been closed.
Courtesy of Ebay. That ticket should never be with Maple Arena because it was NOT a Maple Arena ticket. See closer. Why would some Ebay seller would do that? Real stupid. Never mix that up.
Maple Arena 120 North Main Street, Brockton, MA
Maple Arena was opened by Warren Danner at 120 North Main Street in Brockton, Massachusetts. Very simple name for a rink for sure. This sure sound good but to me sounded very Canadian name and I am sure they do have a Maple Arena somewhere in the North of the Border (Canada). This rink was briefly run from 1951 to 1957. That is all they ran, during the height of the 1950s roller skating era.
Someone commented that Maple Arena moved in when Zayres Department Store (or warehouse) moved out. In a year? It can happen. This is what someone commented in Enterprise News. (After click to open, roll down to 7th paragraph and the 8th).
A well known couple skates skater David Tassinari was discovered by Warren Danner and paired up and that lead to an illustrious career for David in 1950s and 1960s before he retired, married, and have children. In latter years, David became a coach and judge at nationals and other championships. He is already in his mid 70s still teaching skaters to skate and has a client who is 95 years old! Wow!
The building was demolished recently. Do not know why they demolished it. it was a huge facility. Loop Net reported that and two different reports from Loop Net saying the different sizes of the building. One of the two saying 53,000 SF while the other saying 65,000 SF. Ah! I would to built a HUGE rink there! Darn it! it is gone! All torn down. Perhaps roof leaky and stuff. That is too bad. It was demolished in late 2020.
The Interior.
N/A.
The sizes for the rink and the building in 1950s are really unknown. Because it does look like add on after the rink closed. Not sure.
The Exterior.
This Gable and Flat roofs building with Free-Span Steel Truss supported building that has Cinderblocks walls. it was very long looking building for the rink. Although I do not see any pictures, it was heavily renovated in 1994 although was renovated a few times for sure after it closed in 1957, and again in 2018 after the storage place closed their franchise there. The frontage looks very Roman in this 2014 incarnation because of the Roman style Canopy where that was the front door was. For sure there were two front doors. But the 2014 on has one. Likely after 1957, the conversion too. Not sure. The appearance was unknown during 1950s. But later years, it showed different renderings of storage places. One with Orange and Brown, the other was Teal and White and another time was White with Lime Green and Gray which makes more recent appearance. I think in 1990s, it was Teal and White. Then Orange and Brown, then Lime Green and Gray more recent years.
The building was demolished.
