Lowe's Glideway Rink was the original but I do not know the dates. Likely it around 1930s to 1950s then it was replaced by Lowe's Roller Rink was around in 1960s according to two stickers and one really showed the date. I do not know when they closed. This is all based on stickers, and a photograph. But I got this originally from Bizapedia which explained it was established on January 6, 1978 but it was dissolved sometime after that. I am not sure about the one in 1978 and may not be related. But it was in same town. Maybe this one in 1978 was trying to reboot. Some rinks do that like TV shows, automobiles. Remember the New VW Beetle? That was a reboot. Hawaii-5-0 was also a reboot of Jack Lord lead series.
Lowe's Glideway Rink and the mid-century Lowe's Roller Rink had bunch of stickers actually and patches as well. That is all I could find them but no photos except for one with bunch of skaters in that photo above.
This was the very rink to host annual skating rink sticker trade show. Collectors would meet and trade or buy their collections or their bulk of stickers they bought from other rinks. Stickers were very popular back the day and they would often put stickers on their metal skate cases. it would make it look like they are world traveling suitcases you seen often. Or their own home rink because they are part of the team - figure, speed, or dancing. Rarely Roller Derby of yesteryear would do that too. Problem is for me is I bought cases that fits perfectly at Harbor Fright that has rough surface and no way a sticker can be put on! No rinks in Syracuse, NY and I do not see at any places that has a case I can put a few stickers on. Oh well. Actually, I have two cases. One for my skates, the other is for supplies such as disinfection spray, tools, clipboard, pen (for scoring rinks), etc.
UPDATE -- This skate fan was telling me in her email on December 10, 2020 that the rink was open long ago before 1930s and they did close and an attempt to reopen the rink but the building caught on fire ruined everything.
The Interior.
Based on that ONE photo, Lowe's Guideway Rink was a Cinderblock built free-span Steel truss building as you can see in the old 1942 photo. The floor which was visually clear in this somewhat difficult Black-and-White photo. It displayed as Fan layout.
UPDATE -- a Skating fan emailed me today on December 10, 2020 telling me this rink floor was the best because it was a special wood floor and it was varnished/waxed to make it frighteningly fast floor and much smooth for skaters to skate. More slippery if you want to say. It was set very differently than Concrete or any other floor according to her.
The Exterior.
