City Skate Center 63 West Walnut Street, Painesville OH. The former Laura's Roller Emporium seen at night during Christmas season. No snow? Those lights were really bright. Reflexions on the clouds. Beautiful picture really. One of the best I ever seen! Source: City Skate Center Facebook.
City Skate Center 63 West Walnut Street, Painesville OH. The former Laura's Roller Emporium was a rink before it became City Skate Center. Nice floor they did put finishing on. See the Blue Room they call that? That was where the organ used to be. Now a DJ booth. I love the simple US Patriotic colors on the walls. Love the stripes. This is a sort of throwback to the 1970s with patriotic colors. Getting ready for the US Sestercentennial Celebration in 2026? If yes, YAY! Beautiful picture really. City Skate Center 63 West Walnut Street, Painesville OH. Really cool art! A stick person in 3D waving HI as it is skating. Funny! Love this! Unique and different. Source: City Skate Center Facebook.
City Skate Center 63 West Walnut Street, Painesville OH. One of the best interior photo of a rink I have ever seen. This is art. Smart to pose by the mirror ball as a it is to frame in the photograph. Looks like it had slow dance music but no one was couple skating. They are very young skaters skating so that is all moot what I said. It was just mellowing for the kids. Good, not some crazy music. I hope not. Unique and different with this photo. I love it! CSC is STILL operational today. Go check it out! Source: City Skate Center Facebook.

Rollerena was there first before City Skate Center at this location, 63 West Walnut Street in Painesville Ohio. This beautiful Rotunda roller rink was around for a long time. From what I see in photos. I think it goes far back to 1956 according to someone.
Hard to tell with the photo because it looked so much changed. Looks like it was a total rebuilt.
Today it is City Skate Center and I love their art creature.. the Stick person on skates. So funny and cute! It is on their Facebook page. This incarnation is still operational today. Just that Rollerena and Laura's both are out of business but the rink floor and building are still there today as City Skate Center. Hope this is clear.
UPDATE! -- (10 February 2022).
I received an email today from someone who said about this rink. I apologize if he misunderstood. Rollerena and Laura's both are out of business but the rink floor and building are still there and today it is CSC -- City Skate Center. Hope that clears up. Also some I had to edit. This is what he has to say--
Having a little confusion over your entry about Laura's and City Skate Center. This property has been a rank since 1956, when it started out as the Rollerena. It later became Laura's, and then City Skate.
Not much has changed, especially that Maple rotunda floor. Just updates over the years. Unfortunately, the Rollerena's pool was filled in.
You can check out photos of those places on the "if you grew up in [P}ainesville Ohio you remember" Facebook page.
There are plenty of photos and memories of all of those names.
Our family skates at City Skate Center on their speed team, and we thought it being odd that it was labeled as a dead r[i]nk. (Bill, I will say it again, sorry for confusion. Just that Rollerena and Laura's both are dead-rinks but CSC is still operational. I even said that already on ths profile before you emailed. Hope that clears up).
Thanks,
Bill
A swimming pool! Nice! It was common from say 1800s to 1950s that roller rinks had swimming pools in the same complexes or same grounds. Most phased that out by early 1960s.
The Interior.
Rollerena: Non-painted, Polyurethane coated Maple with Rotunda layout. They may had an organ.
Laura's Roller Emporium: Non-painted, Polyurethane coated Maple with Rotunda layout.
They had an organ sitting in the corner where that blue room is at now. (see photo). Then a DJ used it in the 1980's.
City Skate Center: Non-painted, Polyurethane coated Maple with Rotunda floor layout. The new owners under this rink did much renovations in 2012.
The Exterior.
One thing to know that it was hard to see from the road and far from the road. Kind of hiding behind a huge tree and a couple of commercial buildings.
Rollerena: I do not know the original color to the former rink. It was built.. I do not know when but it is a Free-Span Steel Trusses Cinderblocks - Walled Warehouse - like Building with Gable roof. Maybe they had Carmel color walls but not sure.
