Laconia Skate Escape Roller Rink, 161 Court St., Laconia, NH aka
Skate Escape, 161 Court St., Laconia, NH
This rink which is also known as just Skate Escape. This rink was open some time ago which I do not see when however, the original rink was burned by a massive fire at 2:30 AM on September 22, 2013.
The fire started at the rink and it spread to other businesses near by. It spread so bad that it brought about 8 different fire departments.
Looks like the work on the roof or the building to be renovated because of the fire photo showed the scaffolds were up. However, the fire magazine showed it was not. Very clear picture of the front of the building where the entrance was located.
Let's look at happier times before the fire, the rink was a very unique one because of the interior had different height of ceiling. Front part was higher than the back part. About half of the rink was in high ceiling and the back side was lower. There were posts in middle of the rink. It was concrete with Sky Blue Polyurethane coat floor. It was just plain without any circles or anything on it. The half-walls were very stylish with wood framing around the carpets on both side and had mantle-like on top of it. Very stylish. The walls were cinder-blocks around the building. No murals, nothing like that. Very basic decor. Very rustic-like because it was just plain. But it was very unique look that made the place look very unique.
The dimension of the building was 287' by 232' and it was a T-shaped floorplan. Apparently other businesses were in the same building, in my opinion according to the e-magazine for firefighters.
I have no idea what the dimensions for the rink itself.
The snack-bar area had many kinds of tables and chairs. Even that yellow round picnic table they had. But also long white folding tables with chairs. All were not attachable.
They had a lot of different activities there even fund raising events to raise funds for charities. I also noticed in photos, skaters are very involved not just to skate but to decorate the place! Very close knit kind of community at this rink.
While this is listed, the business itself is not out of business because the owners of the rink are trying to raise capital. I highly recommend you check their Facebook page and donate money from your penny jar and give. Dead Rinks (or you can say Mark Falso) strongly recommend you support your local rinks that are still active to have skating rinks still in operations because of this day and age that many rinks folded by giving up too easily without a fight. This one and a few others are not giving up any fights even if they had a fire or two. They have their email and you can send an email to them and ask questions and how to send funds.

In 2014, the owners and investors were trying to establish a new sports complex but ran into some difficulties with the zoning board so stay tuned and I have strong gut feelings this rink will rise from ashes like a Phoenix rising.
The original location is now a dollar store.
