Kraving Movement Rollerkade 1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. Very creative. Funky design but it is a fusion here that it clashed with Modernism (the circle and the Skate). If they had done more work, the skate could have fitted better with a design that goes with the fonts. For example,.. I cannot think of a logo that fits with the funky name. Oh yes.. Norm's and Tiny Naylor's drive ins had that 1950s fonts that went with their logos of arrows and jet taking off respectively on the building architecture. Another example. Maybe a Tiki restaurant had Tiki Bamboo Fonts to go with their Easter Island Head as a logo. I can name more but you get the idea. So, it is a clash of theories here. Source: Roberts/R & R Skating Rink Facebook. I love the font really.
R & R Skating Rink/Roberts Skating Rink1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. Logo that was simple in design. I love simplify and this applies because the function is simple and points out what. Source: Roberts Skating Facebook.
Cheapskates Family Fun Center 1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. Very colorful logo. And very detailed because of the wheels compared to Roberts/R & R Skating Rink's logo. Looks very upgraded. Excellent for business cards, brochures, letter head. I love this one. Source: Cheapskates Facebook.
Cheapskates Family Fun Center 1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. A step back further to see the plaza clearly and to compare the size to the vinyl wrap on the building. The rink itself is small as you can see the wall to wall of this business compared to other businesses next to the rink you can see in the photo. Source: Google.
Cheapskates Family Fun Center 1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. I am crazy about this vinyl wrap that was on the windows of Cheapskates which was part of a shopping center. Oversized skaters are shown. You can tell because of the front doors for entrance and exit were easily compared to. Source: Cheapskates Facebook.
Kraving Movement Rollerkade/R & R Skating Rink/Roberts Skating Rink/Cheapskates Family Fun Center 1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. The rentals were on the front glass wall side as the games were shown on the right. Just a few games. The entire floor of this place were likely Concrete or Terrazzo. Source: Cheapskates Facebook.
Kraving Movement Rollerkade/R & R Skating Rink/Roberts Skating Rink/Cheapskates Family Fun Center 1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. Cash register for admission AND rental at the same spot. Sounds effective but laborous for one person handling both admission and rentals. I am curious what kind of cash register is that. Source: Cheapskates Facebook.
Kraving Movement Rollerkade/R & R Skating Rink/Roberts Skating Rink/Cheapskates Family Fun Center 1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. The close up of the banners and I love those banners. The colors, it goes with anything in that place really. And those skaters were in silhouettes. Source: Cheapskates Facebook.
Kraving Movement Rollerkade/R & R Skating Rink/Roberts Skating Rink/Cheapskates Family Fun Center 1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. Clearly this was the original before the updated you can see in the next two photos. In this one you can see clearly it had Lime Green wall and no stripes along the posts. Also the base of the floor base. Originally had a Safety Yellow color on but new ones did not have that. I think they should have for safety! Source: Cheapskates Facebook.
Kraving Movement Rollerkade/R & R Skating Rink/Roberts Skating Rink/Cheapskates Family Fun Center 1400 W. 2nd #D, Roswell, NM. This view showed updated version because they painted in University Orange over the Lime Green. This is when they had it in black light to show the neon reflexions. Look at the floor! They DID splash paint the floor to make it very much like a famous artist paint would do. Source: Cheapskates Facebook.

This view showed updated version because they painted in University Orange over the Lime Green. I really like the banners they hung up of skaters in Silhouettes. They also painted the stripes on the floor between posts and really can show in reflexions. Source: Cheapskates Facebook.

The thicker counter is where the candies are and when you choose one, they open and hand you the exact candy you ordered. Source: Cheapskates Facebook.

There were several rinks at 1400 West 2nd Street #D, Roswell, New Mexico. The home of the infamous July 4th, 1947 UFO crash that later the US Air Force quickly said it was a weather balloon. By the end of June 2021, we will know the result of that report that they covered up. Many information related to the Roswell Incident are throughout the internet at your pleasure if you desired to look it up. The 75th anniversary will occur in July 2023.
In mean time, in history of Roswell, there were rinks including Kraving Movement Rollerkade, followed by Roberts Skating/R & R Skating Rink, and more recently and maybe still operational, Cheapskates. That one is still a mystery because they had their last post in mid 2020 and said they were still closed due to COVID lockdowns. I see nothing about it now. There is a post by a skater wondering when they will reopen and that post was posted in May 2021. (Today is June 22, 2021). I hope they are still operational. If not, uh oh. With COVID lockdowns, it does confuse people because of unknown when or what they will open. Even with tv shows I did not know when they start airing and they sure did start airing much later and even started in January or February instead of usual September-October new business year. I usually classified new model year or new business year or even TV year is in September. Not January as the calendar year. Only exception is snowmobiles they release between January and March for new model year a year ahead. Say, the new 2023 snowmobiles will be displayed and take orders as early as January 2022. Yes, that far ahead.
Anyway, I had to explain because often rinks close over the summer to lined with school year almost everywhere. For other countries, its the dry season they may close because it is also their "summer break" such as in Costa Rica, it is January to March. Panama get to start a month later. The Philippines is February to May for their school year break depending on where and still have 2 months off.
Back to the rink, with COVID lockdowns, it was stalled for them. Will they be back? I wrote to them. Waiting to hear form them.
The Interior.
The entire facility for the rink business was carpet-less. The floor appeared to be polished Concrete or may have been a modern version of Terrazzo.
The Exterior.
Column Supported Steel Trusses Cinderblocks and Windows Walled Shopping Plaza with Gable roof. It has a lot of venting on top of the roof which made the plaza appeared unattractive. Way many I tell you. I love their vinyl wrap covering the windows to make it bit darker but still can be bright. If you really like it dark go skating there at night.
