Kenvil Arena 950 Route 46, Kenvil, NJ
Kenvil Arena 950 Route 46, Kenvil, New Jersey. It was opened in 1940 by Operator George "Scotty" Nelson. His family operated for many years and then abandoned the rink in around 1980s. It sat empty for too long and photos showed black mold, items falling apart on the building inside.
Later, the Gruber family owned the building. I am not sure if they operated the rink before it closed up. But it was disgusted to leave it abandoned too long. It would have been nice to sell as it kept operating until new owner. Remember this was in 1980s when insurance rate skyrocketed and cancelled policies on rinks as well as real estate values skyrocketed increased property taxes and attractive for owners to sell. Apparently this one did not due to its abandonment.
Then a microbrewery wanted to buy it as in 2018! So far, it is all water under bridge because of the owner of the property refuse to do some work and refuse to put money into repairs because it IS still theirs. So, the microbrewery had to relocate to another place outside of town and all worked out for them. This is clearly all about greed and money.
Then the best way for the town is to condemn the building for demolish and that way bill the owners to pay for the demolish OR eminent domain the property.
Clearly it shows why no one wants the rink because of the owner's greed. DISCLAIMER: This is purely MY OPINION.
The Interior.
It was Hardwood Maple floor, Non-painted. Perhaps coated later with a Polyurethane type of flooring coat. They may have renovated changes a few times but will only explain the near end cycle of décor. It was rather Cub Scout colors-- Yellow and Blue. The colors existed in the abandoned look. However, they renovated interior to clean up and it appeared all sterile White in 2019. Fate of the building is yet to see. Are all those molds extract completely? Might be inside the cinderblocks, have you thought of that? Danger, Will Robinson, Danger. Who knows. I do not mean to insult.. I apologize.. But safety is our concern!
The Exterior.
it was Bow Tie Segmental Arch built on Cinderblocks Arena like building. Original colors were unknown on the outside however, the present day according to pictures in 2010s. It is all white.

Dead Rinks is now International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© because many former names have become new names at the same rinks that are still active and due to much confusion, We have decided that International Roller Skating Rinks History Foundation© fits better for all rinks including defunct, closed, inactive, rebooted, and rinks that are still active today. For short on this site, it is International Roller Skating Rinks History© Bear with us as we change the entire site page by page each day. Thank you for understanding.

Rinks that are closed are considered dead. Rinks that are/were sold and with new management names new name(s), the former are considered dead. Previous operating rink that closed but came back years later, are considered dead because the reopening is considered rebooted, nothing to do with the former. Since we are rebooted to allow alive rinks, active rinks, we welcome those active rinks as well. It will be described.
As for “For Office Only” is for my reasoning and private legal reason for that.
